Learn to Play Daggerheart with a Collaborative Storytelling GM!
Critters Unite! A world you create. A narrative you shape. An adventure you will lead. Experience all of this in the new game from Darrington Press.
About the adventure
An alliance between two nations is to begin with an arranged marriage. When one of the betrothed is kidnapped, the uneasy peace is shattered and the ensuing chaos sows an uncertain future. Your group has been engaged to discover what happened. You must stop the escalating tension before it breaks out into open violence. But the question is: Do you want to restore the peace? — I love collaborative storytelling roleplaying games and Daggerheart is the convergence of clear mechanics and collaborative storytelling. We’ll explore the character creation and world building together, establishing the setting and history together. We’ll set precedence, exploring how the world’s magic and mythology work fit into the everyday lives of the characters. We’ll shape the narrative of the people and the politics, building the challenges that the world brings to them. And then we’ll play… to find out what happens.

About me
As with every profile, it's a work in progress. Most ttrpg folks have a dice kink. I have a systems kink. I have more books and systems than I'm ever going to be able to play, but I am damn sure gonna try. Here to run games I love and explore games that others do. Want me to run something particular? Let's have a conversation and figure it out.

We have just had session 1 of a Scum.& Villainy campaign, and thanks to Johnnie it's quickly becoming one of my favourite games. After we established the groundwork in session 0, Johnnie dropped us right into the action and gave us the freedom to develop where we were and why we were there. He even encouraged us to establish what sound blasters make in our game (I love tropes so I had to vote for "pew-pew-pew") and worked that directly into the opening scene. It was a true collaborative process and I was personally more invested as a result. Can't wait to see where we go in this campaign. I would highly recommend Johnnie if you like a GM who works with you to create a story that's fun for everyone.
I played with Johnnie using the Dragonbane system. It was a fantastic instructional session, where he encouraged our RP and ideas. Johnnie did a good job leading us through the rules of the game system and the VTT Alchemy. He provided an inclusive and safe environment while providing the tools for us to use, in case anyone felt they needed them. I would play again with him.
Johnnie was patient and communicative, showing new players the ropes of the game and the VTT. He made it known that we were in charge of our story and he never said "no" as he worked everyone's input into our collaborative narrative. Johnnie made himself available the day before for anyone who wanted to make their characters but also provided ready-made sheets on game day for players who chose that route. He knew the rules and knew when to make them cool! I would definitely play with Johnnie again.
Character creation
Creating your character
Prior to our session, I'll be available to help players create characters. We'll be using Demiplane to host our character sheets and character creation will be done there. We'll then use Roll20 to integrate them into our game. Pre-Gen characters will also be available for players who are interested.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We'll using Discord, Demiplane and Roll20 for our game, so you'll need a couple of things in order to prepared. For Discord: - A free discord account. - A working microphone. - headphones (recommended in case you're playing in an environment where others might hear the game). - a camera is recommended but not required. For Demiplane: - A free demiplane account. - A compatible browser that works with forge vtt (Firefox is recommended). For roll20: - A free roll20 account. - A compatible browser that works with roll20 (Chrome is recommended).
What Johnnie brings to the table
An eye for mature storytelling and a collaborative approach to build our story that fits the group at the table. I will have all of the game material accessible to the players. We’ll use Demiplane for sharing Daggerheart materials and characters and discord for voice/video communication. This will be a narrative first game filled with story and combat. We'll play with the rule of cool, but won't ignore the rules either.

Safety
How Johnnie creates a safe table
Daggerheart is at its core a collaborative storytelling. How the narrative gets shaped is largely up to the players. So we will discuss safety tools before our game session, set clear limits on where the story will not go and then do a check in after the game. In Discord, we’ll discuss the use safety tools with the following goals: - content warnings and what they mean for the game. - establish lines and veils document for things that are off limits - An X card to acknowledge concerns during the session. - An open door policy, which means that you are free to step away and leave at any time if something doesn't feel right.
