The Obsidian Collapse: A One-Shot Adventure
About the adventure
The Obsidian Golem, a monstrous engine of destruction, threatens to unleash a wave of chaotic energy that will shatter the very foundations of your homeland. The tremors beneath your feet are not just a sign of the Golem's power; they are the death throes of your nation. Its rampage must be stopped now. The wealth hidden within its lair, though desperately needed, is secondary to the immediate threat. Every moment you hesitate, every blow that misses its mark, brings your people closer to annihilation. This is not a mission for glory or riches; this is a desperate, last-ditch stand against imminent destruction. The Obsidian Maw will collapse upon the Golem’s fall, and your survival is far from assured. You volunteered for this, knowing the risks and that failure is not an option. Steel yourselves, for the fate of your nation hangs in the balance. Yet, you volunteered. You, a band of hardened adventurers, answered the call, knowing the risks. You understood that the fate of your homeland might rest upon your success, and that even a slim chance of survival was worth the gamble. Now, you stand before the Golem, its obsidian hide gleaming in the dim light of the Maw's depths. The battle rages, and the very air crackles with unstable magic. Your mission is clear: defeat the Golem and escape the collapsing dungeon with whatever treasures you can salvage. But remember, every swing of your blade, every spell cast, brings the Maw closer to its inevitable destruction. Strategic combat and swift decisions will be your only allies. The dungeon will shift and crumble around you, testing your skills and resolve at every turn. Can you overcome the Golem, navigate the treacherous collapse, and bring back the riches your nation so desperately needs? Or will you become another forgotten casualty of the Obsidian Maw?

About me
Hi, everyone, I'm Charlie! I've been a GM for almost 10 years and have run campaigns in 3.5e, 4e, 5e, 5.24e, Savage Worlds, Levelup A5e, Mutants and Masterminds, and Star Wars Saga Edition. My style focuses on roleplay and intrigue, but I pride myself on running well-paced combat where combatants make realistic choices based on the creature, their environment, and the events surrounding them. I'm very familiar with virtual tabletops, such as Roll20, Foundry, and Fantasy Grounds, so I can guide newcomers and troubleshoot pretty much any problem that may occur. For visuals, I utilize descriptive language to augment battle maps, character tokens, and backgrounds. So, please join me if you want to participate in a character-driven world that can be homebrew, an open world in an established setting, or a contained module. I look forward to hearing from you. =D

DeceitfulCharlie is an amazing DM. I have been a player in his campaigns for about 7 years. He makes rich lore and uses expanded rulesets to allow for various arenas of combat and other adventures. He rewards good roleplaying and is encouraging and patient to new and veteran players alike. He has wide range of styles he can cater to, from brutal realism to relaxed slice-of-life based on the preferences of his party. He creates nice visuals and does accents and personalities for NPCs. He is kind and accepting of differences and makes everyone feel valued at the table.
Charlie stands out as one of the most exceptional Game Masters I've ever encountered. With over seven years of playing in his campaigns, I've consistently been impressed by his unparalleled world-building, deep knowledge, and ability to cater to both new and seasoned players. He ensures every player has a chance to shine, creating immersive worlds that truly bring the game to life, all while maintaining expert command of the mechanics. In my 20 years of playing Dungeons & Dragons across various systems and regions, I have yet to meet another GM with his level of experience, creativity, and dedication to crafting an outstanding gaming experience. I wholeheartedly endorse Charlie and hope to share the joy of playing a game with both you and him in the future!
4/5 (5/5 is for god tiers like Matt Mercer) I've been an adventurer in Charlie's worlds for five years, in at least three different campaigns. I have attended around 200 sessions over the years, and he has never missed or called off a single one. He is accommodating towards anyone's, or the parties needs and wants. He is familiar with multiple games if you want to try something other than DnD. He always finds a way for each persons character to feel powerful in their own niche.
Character creation
Creating your character
We will create characters during session zero using the point buy system. All published Wizards of the Coast material is available, and the characters will be level 12. I will also provide a few prebuilt characters for plug-and-play adventuring.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I recommend bringing a reliable microphone for the Discord chat, but webcams are entirely optional. You will need a basic Discord and Roll20 account to play, but you will not need to pay for any subscriptions on either of those.
What Deceitful Charlie brings to the table
This one-shot will have a heavy tactical aspect that is best served by visuals, so I will provide battle maps, visual handouts, and compendium sharing through Roll20. As this is a one-shot, I will focus more on the rule of cool than rules as written to encourage smooth gameplay and creativity (within reason). I have a good grasp of D&D 5e rules and mechanics, so I should be able to settle most queries quickly, but I will use the rule of cool to prevent us from having to do a rule lookup. A couple of things that I would like to alert players to that are not in the safety section are megalophobia and time anxiety. The Obsidian Golem is very big, and I will describe the size differential to build tension unless we decide to veil or line megalophobia. For time anxiety, I will have a timer counting down to the destruction of the dungeon. At the end of the session runtime, the dungeon will be destroyed regardless of whether the players escape. I understand that this causes anxiety, and I can hide the timer to keep people from stressing out.

Safety
How Deceitful Charlie creates a safe table
Player safety is my primary concern, so players will always be able to anonymously use cards to skip over descriptions or stop something in its tracks. Lines and veils are super important to me, so I know what to avoid or eliminate from my narration style. I am very receptive to feedback and creating a positive environment, so feel free to interrupt or DM me with any concerns that you have.
