About the adventure
How far would you go to save a soul? Asmodeus, Supreme Ruler of the Nine Hells, has you in a bind. He has recently become the proud owner of your soul, or the soul of someone you care about deeply. Can this soul be redeemed? Only if you journey to the deepest layer of Hell and confront the King himself. Can you resist the corruption of the Nine Hells and free yourself from the Chains of Asmodeus - or will this visit to the Hells be a one-way trip? Combining Chains of Asmodeus with some personal touches by your DM, this campaign will take you from level 10 all the way up to level 20. The campaign emphasizes player agency, with choices having meaningful consequences, multiple possible paths to resolving encounters and challenges, and a variety of factions and NPCs for the party to choose as allies or rivals. I enjoy working with players to build fun and effective characters with backstories and motivations that are tied into the main plot, and I encourage players to work together in and out of character. Three of our players will be staying on from a previous campaign, and they are very friendly and welcoming to beginners and veterans alike. The campaign is LGBTQIA+ friendly and inclusive to all. I have been playing and running D&D games for over 25 years, and running games online since 2020. I use FoundryVTT and Discord (voice only or voice and video, depending on player preference). Please feel free to message me with questions.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! I'm Neal, and I've been playing and running RPGs since high school. I love roleplaying and entertaining, and I've pursued a career in adjacent fields such as theatre and education, but with the rise of online gaming I've decided to take my hobby to the next level. I was born and raised in New York, where I worked in the theatre industry throughout my 20's until I decided it was time for a more radical change in scenery. I moved to the country of Georgia and became a teacher, drawing on my theatre experience to teach subjects such as Design and Drama. After more than a decade teaching, the pandemic showed me that remote work was definitely my jam. I've been running games online for about four years now and I love the experience. I've set up a discord server and a cloud-hosted Foundry VTT installation, which I've tailored to my DMing style using a variety of add-on modules. My games are designed to be approachable and beginner-friendly and to foster meaningful roleplaying experiences in which player characters have an important place in the setting and players have the opportunity to add to the world with creative input.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
We will use standard D&D 2024 rules for character creation, including point buy for stats. We will start at level 10, and I'm available to help with character creation over Discord. Before the first session we'll also go over what made each character decide to commit their soul to an archdevil, how the characters came to work for the Zariel cultists, and how the characters know each other.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need a computer with a web browser and a discord account. Players will need a mic and a headset or earphones to avoid echos, and preferably a quiet play environment.
What Neal Z brings to the table
I bring FoundryVTT with map packs as well as some of my own custom maps, and with lighting, sound, and animations as appropriate to help with immersion and engagement. I also have fully unlocked character options on D&DBeyond. I have a set of house rules to keep combat moving at a good pace. I enjoy tactical combat and balancing encounters for a variety of challenges and a variety of play styles. I also enjoy doing NPC voice acting.
Homebrew rules
Fast Combat Rules: 1. Act quickly - stay engaged and be ready to act when called on 2. Limit table-talk - Once initiative is rolled, your characters don't have time to debate strategy and tactics anymore 3. Commit to your decisions - once you've done something it usually won't be retconned, unless it was based on an out-of-character misunderstanding. 4. Mob Attack Rule - when rolling multiple identical attacks, I'll combine them into one roll for the sake of speed and threat (mechanically, this is similar to MCDM's minion/group attack roll). Crunchy Crits: critical dice are always maximized - e.g. a crit with a longsword does 1d8+8, rather than 2d8 Healing Potions: Full action, Full heal. You can drink a healing potion as a Bonus Action per standard rules, or drink it as a regular action to get maximum healing.

How Neal Z creates a safe table
Lines and Veils are presented to players before gameplay starts via a link in the Discord and will be reviewed during the first session as well as when new players join. We will have breaks during each session and Stars and Wishes at the end of each session. Other Session 0 material will be covered in the Discord.
