About the adventure
Only have a few hours to play? Need something that's easy to jump into with only a little prep? Dive into this homebrew adventure for 5th level players featuring a flying castle, flying mounts, and a mysterious crime against high magic! THE BASICS: 1] RULES: D&D 5E, new 2024 rules OK, 2014 rules OK too. 2] ALIGNMENTS: Good & Neutral aligned Player Characters If you have a special idea for a FUN evil character that won't disrupt the party, contact me via Direct Message and we can discuss it, and if it feels like it will work, I'll consider it. 3] BOOKS: If you wish to use options from specific D&D books that might not be allowed, message me in advance, and I'll see if your preference is or can be made compatible with this game. In most cases I find it works just fine. 4] CHRACTER SHEETS: Please create your 5th-level character in D&D Beyond and attach it to the campaign link provided. Feel free to use either Legacy or new (2024) rules and use this campaign link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/join/62828531874659301 THE STORY: Your 5th-level characters find themselves unwillingly (or was it unwittingly) transported to a far-away realm with which they are utterly unfamiliar. Broke and confused, as the PCs sort out what's happening around them, an opportunity suddenly arises to earn some serious coin! Did I mention the potentially fatal dangers inherent in this opportunity? I'm sure your party's skills are more than a match for ... well, I'll keep the details to myself for now. ;) THE PARTY: Focus on balance, and you'll be on the right track. Be sure to pack some punch, the crackle of spell-casting, some meaningful healing capacity (yes, some of this is gonna hurt), and a goodly measure of stealth! Add in a little something special of your own, and I'm sure your party will more than rise to the occasion! ENVIRONMENTS: On the ground, in the air, over water (but not under it (unless we talk about it and plan for it in advance)), a wide potential range of temperatures, open ground to mountainous terrain, and a possible underground lair or two. ENEMY MOTIVATIONS: Your enemies are greedy in the extreme, with a particular lust for one certain kind of treasure. But why? 🤔

About me
Greetings Adventurers and fellow DMs! I'm your friendly GM/DM Justin Donie, known here as Fungeon Master Justin. I specialize in D&D5e games for parties ranging in size from 1 to 12 people (1-6 online, 1-12 in person), with ideal party sizes ranging from 3 to 5 players, comfortably managing an eight-person campaign at the moment. I've run over 700 D&D/RPG sessions in my 40+ years of playing (590+ of those in D&D 5e in the last 10 years), including a good mix of in-person and remote sessions of D&D (AD&D, 2e, 3e, 5e), Star Trek, Star Wars, Shadow Run, and other RPGs, but my focus is definitely D&D. I was fortunate to spend over 10 years working at Wizards of the Coast, and while I was there I got the chance to write the D&D Adventurers League module 09-03 Hungry Shadows (https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Hungry_Shadows) and to be a contributing writer to Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. I offer a range of session type and length options including One-Shots (2-3 and 4-5 hours), Marathon One-Shots (5-6 and 7-8 hours) and Campaigns with serial 1-2 hour or 3-4 hour episodes. In addition to the One-Shots and Campaigns I currently offer, feel free to message me about doing a Custom One-Shot for you and your party! I enjoy running both published content and my own homebrew one-shots and campaigns. I am available for both private individual/group events as well as public events, and if you'd like me to run something you've written, I'm open to discussing that too! Please see my GM Style notes for more information about me and what I do! PARTY COMPOSITION: Recognizing that you might be contacting me as an individual looking to play in a game OR as one person representing a group of people who want to play together, please mention in your contact whether you are looking only for 1 slot for yourself or if you have friends who are planning to join the same scheduled event. I normally only run Neutral and Good characters, but I will run Evil's IF the group playing the Adventure agrees to it and we discuss play style well before game time. So if you want to play an evil character, please contact me before booking. SPECIAL REQUESTS: It's always OK to ask me about shifting dates, times, player counts, etc. to better suit your purposes. If I can make it work from my end, I'll be happy to do so!

Creating your character
My Quick D&D sessions feature characters you bring to the game already created in D&D Beyond. Keep in mind that D&DB offers some short cuts for quicker character creation if that sounds more suited to your needs. Feel free to direct message me AT LEAST A DAY BEFORE the session if you need some help navigating the D&D Beyond Character Builder, and I'll be happy to spend up to 1 hour (for free) helping you out. If you need more help, I also offer paid beginner sessions (which can be 1-on-1). When in doubt, send me a message with your questions any-time and I'll answer as quickly as possible. DISCORD SERVER: https://discord.gg/s6rfXgMP CHANNEL: quicky-dnd-one-shots-2026 D&D BEYOND CAMPAIGN: https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/join/62828531874659301 Bring a prepared L5 character to the game, added to my D&D Campaign, according to the following specs for me to review at least 2 hours before the game: Specifications: LEVEL 5 STANDARD ARRAY SOURCES = CORE, EXPANDED, 2024, 201 PARTNERS = Critical Role, Drakkenheim, Humblewood, Grim Hollow, Kobold Press, The Griffon's Saddlebag DICE ROLLING enabled ADVANCEMENT=Milestone HIT POINT TYPE = Fixed PREREQUISITES = Feats+ Multiclass SHOW LEVEL SCALED SPELLS IGNORE CAMPAIGN WEIGHT CHARACTER PRIVACY = your choice .MOUNTS will be provided in-game if needed. .ENVIRONMENT APPROPRIATE CLOTHING AND GEAR (snow, desert, etc.) will be provided in-game as needed. INVENTORY =STANDARD GEAR FOR YOUR SPECIES/CLASS/BACKGROUND + 50gp =3 CONVENTIONAL (NON-MAGIC) WEAPONS =2 UNCOMMON MAGIC ITEMS HEALING: HEALING POTIONS "may be" provided in some game scenarios, or not. DM recommends at least one healer per team, but not required.
Someone or something is stealing magic! It all began with a simple missing spell scroll here and a stolen magical item there, but now things have escalated! A powerful wizard's spell book was been taken from a locked tower in the capital city! A long lost artifact has been looted from a long sealed ancient tomb! What could be next?! Can you and your party get to the bottom of what's happening before you too become victims of this plague of magic banditry!?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
1) CHARACTER: Be sure to generate a character of the specified level (5th) safely prior to game time, as this will increase the amount of time we get to spend playing. 2) MUNCHIES: Have your drinks and snacks ready ahead of time ... same reason, more time to play. (If you forget, it isn't a problem, just a little less play time.) 3) DICE: Have your dice (real or virtual) ready to go. 4) CHARACTER LINKED: Make sure your character is connected to the campaign via the link I'll provide. 5) QUESTIONS: Send me any questions you have about the session at least a few hours before game time, if possible. Discord works best for quicker replies. 6) TECH: This may sound obvious, but be sure you've got ... 6a) WEB -a working connection to the internet, 6b) SPEAKERS+MIC -working speakers and mic, and 6c) SCREEN - at least one working screen for viewing visuals. 6d) CAMERA (optional) - It's 100% OK to play without a camera, if you prefer.
What Fungeon Master Justin brings to the table
MY BACKGROUND: As a GM, I've run over 790 RPG sessions, over 600 of which were D&D 5e, over half of which was homebrew content. I am also the author of D&D Adventurers League module 09-03 Hungry Shadows, and I was a contributing writer for the book Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus (doin' mom and dad proud, writing all about hell). IF WE CAN CONNECT THE DAY BEFORE THE GAME ... As your Adventure Writer and GM, my primary goal is to make sure everyone has a great time, including me! I recognize that every person and group is different and that their preferences also vary, so I offer a ONE HOUR FREE SESSION ZERO, scheduled separately, at least one day in advance of the game, in which we can spend 60 minutes upfront discussing the group's preferences, character set up questions, and anything else you like before diving into the story. The advance scheduling of the optional session zero is so I can make adjustments that enhance everyone's fun in advance. VIRTUAL/REMOTE PLAY: I use D&D Beyond and grant all player characters assigned to my campaign full access to all relevant materials. I also provide custom story content, original art (my own and AI-generated images synthesized by me) highlighting NPCs, locations, and items, along with lots and lots of detailed big and small maps, as well as PDF post-game session notes for every episode. Video recordings may be available if the group is open to it. PLAY STYLE: I like to keep the story, the action, and opportunities for character expression working together throughout our sessions. I won't drop you in a perilous situation and just sit back and wait for you to figure it out, nor will I hold your hand and guide you through a single-path adventure. I thrive on presenting you with situations you'll enjoy figuring out and challenges you'll enjoy rising to meet. You and your fellow players will definitely have a voice in how the story turns out! FOCUS ON FUN: I try to stay as familiar with D&D rules as possible, and I will certainly use them to guide our play, but when it comes to gray areas in the rules, I'm much more likely to favor what's fun for the party over the letter of the rules ... just as the games designers had in mind. When in doubt, ask the DM. Anything's possible! ROLE PLAY & VOICES I love doing a wide range of compelling NPC voices and sound effects, but if you happen to be a group that prefers that I don't do that, and/or you don't want to do that yourselves, I'm totally OK either way. Just let me know what you prefer. I've played in a wide range of role-play/voice environments, from none-at-all to boisterous, and I'm comfortable adjusting my style to what works best for each group. QUESTIONS? Just shoot me a message, and I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have.

Safety
How Fungeon Master Justin creates a safe table
The use of the various safety tools listed will be worked out with the group during Session Zero to best suit the preferences of the group while always maintaining a fun and safe play environment. I prefer a very open approach to safety so that everyone feels comfortable at all times. It's our game, so let's work together to make 100% sure we're all having a great time! NOTE - Assume we'll take one 5-10 minute break (longer if needed) halfway through the session. The group may opt out of the break if there is consensus.
