About the adventure
***BEGINNERS WELCOME!*** Learn D&D 5e: Lost Mine of Phandelver Ancient secrets & powerful magic, a small community on the brink, and a selfish, evil wizard conspiring to control it all... Will you help the community? Or will the nefarious forces conspiring to take this resource for their own in the reckless pursuit of capitalism win out against you & your adventuring party? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Join me for a level 1 - 6 adventure in which you'll learn to play D&D 5e (2014) and fall in love with it in a safe, patient environment with a queer/neurodivergent GM! You'll pick up the game's mechanics gradually over time, but if you know nothing about the game I can teach you the basics in just a few minutes by dropping you into a make-believe situation and simply asking you how you'd like to solve it using your mind and character abilities, which will grow with you. Learn how to stretch your creativity and flex the power within you always knew was there. Come as an adventurer, leave a hero! Player Requirements: - Respectful and kind to fellow players - Can use Roll20 and Discord - Okay with Voice & Typing (NOT video) - LGBTQIA+ community or allies! I absolutely have premade characters for those who would rather jump in without worrying about the whole character creation process. I can even work with you to figure out how to make them. I love to share and teach people this very wonderful, but sometimes infuriatingly complicated game by letting you lead with your creativity and then guiding you through how to get there with your character and how to make the dice rolls necessary to facilitate! Game Platform: Roll20

About me
Hi! I'm Natalie. I'm a big ol silly goose who loves to play DnD and DM for other silly gooses! I love to let people drive the story as much as I do and facilitate a safe space in which to have fun. Been a nerd forever, will be a nerd forever. I also happen to be a queer trans human and hope to make other queer, trans, and neurodivergent people feel safe and seen and able to express themselves through roleplay and exciting combat encounters with our DnD characters.

Natalie is awesome! I didn't have tons of experience playing D&D before joining my first campaign with Natalie, and the entire experience has been great. Natalie is patient with newbie questions and takes her time to explain anything you need clarified. I now play with her as often as I can!
Natalie was great at both mechanical and non-mechanical aspects of the game. Knowledgeable for any quick character questions, and had great sense for when to gloss over a nitty-gritty rule in-game High quality maps utilized, technologically proficient at the skills related to running VTT. Does a fantastic job at characterization (which can be very tough in the online format IMO). Will def play w Natalie again, she is also good for a DM to watch run things to see a different perspective of successful gameplay.

What DM Natalie brings to the table
Platform: Roll20 - I have a whole big suite of stuff on Roll20 with maps, tokens, music, sound effects, etc. - I have enabled Compendium Sharing for easy dragging and dropping of character options if you make your character from within the game (it will stay with you even after our campaign) - Character sheets are easiest to run when made within Roll20, BUT I recognize a lot of people have DND Beyond content. You *CAN* use DnD Beyond to run your sheet. - I ask everyone for some art for their character and I can make your token for you - I also have premade characters you can use if you're just itching to play and making a character sheet sounds daunting. My Style: I love to use the rules as a backstop, but I'm always a fan of rule of cool when it's well explained and creative. I *adore* rewarding creativity. I'm here to make a story with you all and provide a fun playground for role playing and smashy smash smash. If something might break the game, I tend to let the dice decide whether I should even entertain the idea, and go from there. Maybe yes, maybe no. Fluffernutter anyone? *devious cackle* I like to work with every one of my players to integrate their character in the world and bring their backstory into the pre-written content, as well as provide fun individual side-quests between sessions in a play by post style in private messages, and other character backstory moments integrated into the plot. ALSO, I tend to re-work prewritten content to directly address and counter the inherent racism/classism/sexism in some of the games. "Goblins" are the pre-written enemy in Phandelver, and I simply do not like that. There's a whole host of humanoids who are contributing in various ways to the plot and all of them are as diverse in nature as real humanoids - good, bad, and in-between.

Safety
How DM Natalie creates a safe table
I run a very safe game. Period. I am very sensitive to anyone's needs and want to provide the safest place to play. The content warnings are simply to note the typical DND content of violence and NPC death. I also use RPG Safety Tools to indicate any uncomfortability with any moment - we will all stop right away and check in. It's *always* okay to flag with any card for a check-in. There's very little if any problematic content in this adventure and I have removed/modified anything which seemed off or could be triggering (at least to the best of my ability & understanding) There will NEVER be any: - sexual assault/non-consensual anything - animal cruelty/abuse - torture - active, graphic scenes of horrifying nature If there's anything which might seem off please just pop a safety card down and we'll address it.
