Custom Fantasy Campaign! | Create Your Own Fantasy Setting

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Want a Lord of the Rings classic fantasy adventure? Does the more gritty, politically charged world of Westeros seem more appealing? What about a frigid, Skyrim kind of setting? Any of these options and more await you in this Custom Campaign! Join me as I build an entire setting from scratch based on the type of world you would most want to see. Whether it's a tropical island, roaming mountain range, or even a desert sahara, any kind of setting is on the table. Once we have a player base we will ahve a free Session 0 and go over how you all want the setting to be. This not only includes the aesthetic description of the world, but also how it is thematically. If you want it to be more relaxed and fantastical that is certainly possible, or if you want it to be more intense and punishing that can be done as well! It's all up to you! Alternatively, I have a few pre-made worlds that I have ran previous campaigns in, if you prefer to not have so many decisions to make on the outset.

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

How to prepare

A Webcam and Microphone are required for this campaign since we'll be using Discord, but using your Phone camera/mic works too! Plus, making a D&DBeyond account beforehand would be great, but if they are unfamiliar I can assist with account creation.

What I provide

We will use D&DBeyond for this campaign, and for combat it will be a mix of OwlbearRodeo for custom battle maps, and theater of the mind. Each session I'll also be playing background music to fit the mood for each scene. As far as what to expect from me as the DM, I will definitely be doing all sorts of silly voices and impressions for the characters, since for this campaign many of the characters already have iconic speech patterns we all know and love. As a DM I typically default to the Rule of Cool and want to reward really fun/creative player choices, rather than have the rules as written override everything, but it changes depending on the scenario. But again, the Session 0 will be huge for this campaign, since we'll have plenty to iron out as far as what you all want from this setting!

Gameplay details

We will meet for a free Session 0 before starting the campaign to go over all the details of everyone's expectations for the setting, vibe of the game, and safety.

How will character creation work

For character creation we'll start this together during the Session 0, and then I like to meet with each player individually to iron out character details so I can tailor the story to what you want to experience. For stats players can roll for them, and if they roll poorly I have a set number of stats they can choose instead if they prefer. And all of this will be through D&DBeyond, since I have already bought many extra classes, races, feats, etc. Plus, I can make new ones to fit whatever character you'd like to play!
