About the adventure

This game takes place in the Third Era of Khalindor, where the once-united world has been fractured into a series of mysterious islands after a cataclysmic event known as The Dragon’s Wrath. These islands, ruled by ruthless pirate lords, rebellious captains, and shadowy factions, hide ancient secrets, powerful artifacts, and untold dangers. Will you claim your place as a legendary pirate, or be swallowed by the stormy seas? For players who crave a world of freedom and exploration, Pirates of the Shattered Isles offers a mix of daring heists, treasure hunts, naval battles, and mystic ruins. As pirates, you’ll navigate treacherous waters, forge (and break) alliances with other crews, and hunt down Zarcon’s legendary treasure—a powerful artifact said to hold the key to ruling the seas. Along the way, you’ll encounter dangerous foes such as rival captains, vengeful spirits, and the mysterious forces that control the islands. Every choice you make will leave a mark on the world, whether you’re steering your ship into uncharted waters or outwitting a rival crew. This campaign emphasizes player freedom, with a strong focus on exploration and roleplay, interspersed with thrilling combat and challenging puzzles. Each island holds new opportunities and dangers, and no two adventures will be the same. Whether you’re a veteran adventurer looking for a complex, character-driven story or a newcomer excited to test your sea legs in a pirate’s life, this game offers something for everyone. Create your own destiny on the seas, but beware—those waters can be as unforgiving as they are alluring. If you’re ready to brave the high seas, dive into forgotten ruins, and outwit your enemies in a world where every island has a secret, then welcome aboard, sailor. The Shattered Isles await!

About me

Greetings! Here at Nym's Adventures, we believe in a player-oriented approach to pay-to-play tabletop gaming. We're here to bring your stories to the forefront of the adventures published by Wizards of the Coast. We use the modules as a backbone to craft customized sessions for your characters. I began running online games in Summer 2019 after playing with several game masters who didn't seem to care what the players were trying to say with their characters or with their choices. I decided to give the community the kind of attention and enthusiasm I wanted to see in a game master. I've been trying to embody that ideal ever since.

Nym goes out of his way to make sure you get to play characters you'll enjoy, following stories that become more and more personal as you go along. Focused on making the tools secondary and the Gameplay & RP to the forefront, he does a lot of pre-setup and coaching so that everyone can focus on the game rather than how to play.

GM Nym has it all in his name... Nym's a great GM!! I have completed two full WOTC campaigns and am now in my third campaign - a custom world where the players have a lot of agency to determine what happens next. I keep coming back because the games have an engaging storyline, heroic encounters, and we have fun! In game Nym strikes a great balance of battles, exploration, and role playing -- allowing the players to tilt the balance one direction or the other, but never letting it get way out of balance.

Nym is a fantastic DM. He's extremely knowledgeable about game rules and is more than willing to work with new or experienced players on anything, whether RAW or custom elements. He also goes above and beyond by customizing the core adventure modules to make each playthrough unique and challenging. Always have a great time in our sessions!

Character creation
Creating your character

Character Creation will be done together during Session 00. Creation guidelines can be found in the campaign primer, available upon joining the game. Come to Session 00 with ideas, not characters. We will be using 2024 rules, but anything that hasn't been replaced can be used, like old species, subclasses, backgrounds, etc. Khalindor is a land where several of the planes have crashed into one another to form one world, making it the perfect place to build exactly the character you want. **WE ARE USING DnD 2024 AND EXPANDED RULES FOR THIS GAME**

The current party

LEVEL 3 START Now is the 👌 perfect👌 time for you to join the party and help us build the world of Khalindor. We have had a *soft* Session 00 but haven't finalized character sheets or started the adventure yet. We did a party-building mini-game to create a backstory for the group. It's an open narrative so you can fit in anywhere you want or join us at the beginning of the campaign proper. PC GROUP BACKSTORY: The player characters are privateers sponsored by Eldoria, one of the happier/cleaner/brighter cities, to clean up pirates in the Shattered Isles. EMRIK - Elf Eldritch Knight (Scion of Selendrian fallen house on the run from assassins) THALGRIM - Dwarf Cleric/Druid (Raven Queen Follower - Works for Eldorian Military) KØL - Elf Swashbuckler Rogue (Assassin/merc who knows of the bounty on Emrik, but ignores it) "NoName" Illusionist - (Paul hasn't settled 100% yet, but we know he's attached to Køl in some way) Darkheart Coven assassins track Emrik to a sea ship traveling from (the kingdom of) Selendria to (the allied city-state of) Eldoria. They burn down the ship Mummy style, escape by magic, and leave everyone for dead. Thalgrim's Eldorian Military airship picks up the S.O.S. Emrik and Thalgrim become friends. Soon after, a military communique is received by all Eldorian ships: (the kingdom of) Aurelion has designated Emrik an enemy of the state and requests assistance from Eldoria. "We will commit the use of all reasonable resources to aid our ally". Thalgrim chooses to ignore this message and helps his new friend instead. They stop in the Shattered Isles to resupply and get a disguise for Emrik. The military airship makes a quick stop in Aurelion City to deliver aid-packages. This is where Thalgrim and Emrik meet Køl and 'Noname'. Køl and 'Noname' recognize Emrik from their contacts and, knowing Aurelion City's penchant for corruption, choose to help them instead. Together, the characters all know small pieces of a puzzle that amounts to this: Aurelion City is allying with an as-yet-unnamed rebel-faction within the Selendrian government. Aurelion's goal is to change Selendria to a regime more favorable to their aspirations; the goal of the Selendrian rebel-faction is currently unknown to us. It has something to do with erasing Emrik's family from history. After we all meet on this trip from the rescue site back to Eldoria, the plot thickens: there's a cursed item planted on Emrik (details TBD) that the Darkheart Coven borrowed from "Baddie B". The PC's destroyed it and now "Baddie B" is mad at both the DHC and us. "Baddie B" comes after us first and we fight them off, barely defeating the agent they sent. Now we're on the run from the Darkheart Coven, "Baddie B", Aurelion City, and who knows who else. We have clues that lead us to a pirate captain known as Brassbeak. We've enlisted as militia/privateers and have been sent to Unnamed Town to set up an airship yard and investigate rumors that Brassbeak uses the town as safe haven. NEXT TIME: Get you settled into the group Finish our character and story details Arrive in town and start our journey

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Roll20 (required)- Everything you will need for the game will be in Roll20 Dnd Beyond (recommended)- We have sharing enabled for those who join our Beyond campaign and players may use the Beyond20 browser plugin if they wish. World Anvil (recommended) - The campaign primer will be on World Anvil and we'll be filling it out more as we go along. This is where you'll find all the information including session summaries. A campaign primer is available upon joining the game. This will include everything you need to know about what makes Khalindor different than other realms.

What Nym's Adventures brings to the table

We will have everything you need to play in Roll20 like maps, tokens, handouts and art, a full WotC compendium including the DnD 2024 rules as they release. Since the new rules are backwards compatible, you'll be able to use any combination of the rules that you want. It is possible that you'll decide as a group that you want to fully use one or the other. We will be prepared. DM Style: We do our best to have iconic voices for iconic characters in each campaign, with player input very much encouraged. During combat and other appropriate moments, we utilize the Roll20 music library to bring you a dynamic assortment of ambient music and even themes. Music will begin playing 10 minutes prior to a session so players are able to adjust their volume level. We've always stuck to the rule of cool as long as the written rules don't outright forbid an action. This will be extended even further as we all learn the new rule options together. Nym's Adventures was started after one too many sessions where the PC's were only there to tell the DM's story. Our goal is to make sure everyone has the maximum amount of fun. After all, we're playing a game. What other purpose is there? Our motto is "Experience, Your. Story." and that's just what you'll do. You will experience it. It will be yours. And it will be a story to remember.

Safety
How Nym's Adventures creates a safe table

We will go over safety tools during Session 00: - When you join the campaign, you'll receive a copy of the Consent Checklist to let us know about any boundaries you have. We strive to make sure every player is comfortable at our tables. - Every Roll20 game comes equipped with X,N, and O cards if anyone needs to anonymously pause the game or veto a particular decision for their comfort (not to have their way). - At the end of every session, we'll take 5-10 minutes and go through Stars and Wishes. This allows the opportunity to tailor upcoming sessions to give you more of what you want and less of what you don't. - We have a 10-15 minute break in the middle of each session and any player may step away at any time for any reason. If you would like to add any particular safety tools or need any accommodations, just let your DM know and they'll make it happen.
