About the adventure

When the sky catches fire and crashes down upon Vaelda Mortalis, the world is thrown into chaos. In the midst of the calamity, you uncover a sinister truth: a malign and powerful entity engineered the device that sparked this crisis. As you band together with others affected by the catastrophe, an angelic emissary joins your quest to find the one responsible. Alongside your newfound allies, you must use every ounce of your power to thwart this foe before they strike again. With the fates of the veils on the line, it will be up to you to become heroes of the realms. The Burning Veil campaign unfolds in the enchanting Velanaura campaign setting, weaving a deeply personal tale of trust, betrayal, magic, and magnificent ambition. You'll experience a deep story, with interwoven personal connections to character backgrounds, as well as interesting boons and combat scenes, and lasting consequences of decisions.

About me

Hello, hello! The name’s Fey, but there’s a lot more to me than just that! My love for TTRPGs started on New Year’s Eve of 2015 with my very first session played. From the first roll of the dice, I have only fallen more in love with tabletop roleplaying. Before joining StartPlaying, I ran 2-3 games a day, 6 days a week, over the course of 3 years as part-owner of my own TTRPG company – WildewitchRP. This puts me in the ballpark of about 3,500 games that I’ve professionally run pre-SPG, and my repertoire includes fully custom storylines, pre-written modules, one-shots, and adventure campaigns both short and long-term, crafted or embellished in collaboration with my partner. I’m a storyteller who specializes in D&D 5e, however I am a lover of the variety of systems that exist in this hobby. I have experience running the Witcher TRPG and Blue Rose systems, and I'm constantly looking to add more for those who want to play them! I like to describe myself as a “fun-first” kind of GM: I want to make sure that my players are having fun above all else! I achieve this with a blend of roleplay, interesting combat mechanics, puzzles where they're appropriate, and creative custom elements that make choices and interactions exciting. I use the rules of the system to facilitate the story and to create lasting memories at the table, though I will bend the rules in favor of fun. A good story is better than a strict adherence, in my mind. I also work hard to make my tables welcoming, inclusive, and safe for play, using several different measures from group to group that help guide us through a mutually enjoyable experience. There’s a whole world of stories for us to explore, so grab your dice and let’s start our adventure!

Character creation

Creating your character

I encourage players to wait until Session 0 to finalize character ideas, in case they want to make some changes based around information brought up in Session 0. As far as the mechanics of character creation, I use either point buy or standard array for stat generation, and fixed HP. Players can choose whether they use the starting equipment or starting gold for their class & background. I'm fairly lenient on sources for species, background and subclasses. If a player is interested in a homebrew option, I am definitely willing to look it over and get with them about making it work! Characters should be made in D&DBeyond, since that's where I host the digital campaigns.

The current party

This is a campaign that started off-site and is nearing the end of its storyline. It uses 2024 5e rules. Current party comp: Bracken. Kender, Monk 10 | Fighter 4 Avi. Half-Elf, Bard 8 | Sorcerer 6 Cecil. Gnome, Fighter 11 | Cleric 3 Players looking to join the adventure can expect an initial voice call with me and/or my partner before being added to the campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

NECESSARY APPLICATIONS - Discord - A D&DBeyond account Once you have access to the game's text channel in our Discord, you’ll get access to a D&DBeyond campaign where you’ll be able to make your character. We use D&DBeyond for dice rolls and Maps. Game sessions are held over a Discord call. OPTIONAL TOOLS AND APPLICATIONS - Camera

What Fey brings to the table

I have a ton of resources on D&DBeyond that can be used, as well as space for homebrew to be created or reviewed for table inclusion. Dice rolls are handled through D&DBeyond, as well as the campaign for holding character sheets. When maps are used, I use D&DBeyond Maps. I have Syrinscape to create ambience, which I stream for players to tune into if they wish. I do attempt to make character voices, but sometimes I slip in and out of those voices (which can be a fun moment in itself). I try to balance the Rules as Written with the Rule of Cool to make for memorable moments, tension and high stakes.

Safety

How Fey creates a safe table

Safe play is super important to me at the tables I'm at. I like to go over Lines and Veils across the table (no one singled out), during or shortly after Session 0. Session 0 goes over icebreakers for the group, as well as the expectations of the campaign, and what players like and are excited for. Session 0s are also an ongoing conversation in my mind, so if it's needed, another Session 0 can be scheduled! For X cards, these can be messaged to me either in a DM or in the game room. However, players are also able to step away from the table if they need to for any reason with no penalties.
