Experience the Dragon Army’s initial invasion of the land of Solamnia, witness the creation of the infamous flying citadels, and face off against the death knight, Lord Soth." About me

Hi! I'm Max, and I've been a DM for half a decade now! I love telling stories, and helping players like you feel like the powerful hero (or villain) you are!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created using DnD Beyond, and stats will be rolled for. Characters will start at level one. When making your character, you don't need to be war-centric to fit into the campaign. Only requirement to fit into the story is how you met a wandering hero/adventurer that is a friend of yours who will invite you to the starting point of the campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A DnD Beyond account is required to make a character, but a paid subscription is not required. I already have the subscription, so all content I have and create will be available to you. A discord account is necessary to join the group chat where we'll meet for session, keeps notes, share jokes, and more! A microphone is also necessary, as we'll be talking in a Discord voice chat. Beyond this, come with an active imagination and a thirst for adventure! Characters will be finalized at session 0, so remade characters are not necessary.

What Max brings to the table

I use DnD Beyond to help create character sheets, keep track of dice rolls, and utilize maps and tokens through them as well. Discord will be used for us to talk with each other in a voice chat, though no Webcam is needed. I like to run games that focus on story, and working with characters to make the game they want. If there is anything you want that doesn't exist in the normal rules, talk to me and I'll work with you to homebrew something special. Also with a focus on story, I will be doing different voices for NPC's, but you are not required to do a different voice or act. Playing a Charismatic character but bad at conversation IRL? I may ask you to give an example of what you say, but you're more than welcome to say "My character would know X, I don't." and we can go from there. I work with the group to pull punches and make sure everyone has basics down (getting you all to level 3 as characters), but as this is a warfare themed campaign, enemies will act tactically. I will give warning to the party if and when character death is a possibility going into the combat.

Homebrew rules

1. Feeding yourself a potion is a bonus action. 2. At the end of every session, the party votes who to reward inspiration to. Can't vote for yourself. Those who already have inspiration are not up for vote. 3. Inspiration can be used to "Phone a DM". Could be anywhere from a one time form of "communion", or a "I lost the plot" direction guide. 4. Swan Song: If your character has died (failed all death saves, took full hp negative, etc), you can choose to "Swan Song". Roll 1d4, add your con modifier, minimum of one. That is how many rounds you are back up and running. All attacks are at advantage, you regain all abilities and spells, all hits are considered critical. If you get hit, deduct one round from your round count. When this count reaches zero, you truly die. No resurrection, no wish spells, no divine intervention. You are dead dead. 5. At the end of the campaign, whoever won the most inspiration throughout the campaign (and stuck around to see the end of it) will win a free homebrew of their choice based on the character they just played. 6. Click: When a trap is triggered, I will say "click" and ask for a reaction. You can throw yourself prone into an adjacent spot, cast a reaction spell, raise a shield, hold your breath, etc. Your choice can impact your roll. Drop to the floor and arrows shoot out? Get advantage or auto-succeed the dodge. Drop to the floor and the floor gives out? Auto fail.

Safety

How Max creates a safe table

I utilize session zero to help build characters and backstories, but also establish what story aspects everyone is ok with, what limits are in play, etc. This campaign is very heavily warfare focused and DnD is a very sandbox style game. I've done my best to choose what triggers I think are most likely to come up, but that trigger might never come up, or a trigger I didn't expect could arise. Let me know what you're comfortable with and I'll do my best to prevent and work around them. Also after every session, I ask everyone their thoughts on the session and seek genuine feedback. If there's something you'd rather discuss in private, my private messages are always open to you to discuss anything you want.
