About the adventure

Kalendia is cursed, and so are you Six months ago, you defended the feudal kingdom of Kalendia from the machinations of a monster. Thanks to your efforts, the good people of the vast and diverse continent could rest easy knowing that you kept them safe. They didn’t need to know about the cost. About the terrible curses you took upon yourself to protect the world. But you are not the only one who has been hiding a dark and terrible curse. Kalendia itself has been afflicted by a ruinous affliction, and ending it will require journeying across the land to find a way to break not just your curse, but all curses. From the hostile Abydossian desert, to the lush grass fields of the Neofelis Wander. From the Cathedrals and Palazzos of the Citadel, to the Tower of Time in Tirion. From the eldritch gardens of Hecate Castle, to the walls and farmlands of Cair Aegir. The land of Kalendia is filled with wonders and threats. Monsters and allies. But be warned:The one who cursed Kalendia wishes to see it brought to ruin. And they won’t hesitate to kill whoever gets in their way. Campaign Details: Characters will start at Level 9. Character creation primarily uses the 2024 rules, though 2014 rules are allowed. Homebrew species and classes are possible, pending discussion. We’ll be using the point buy system for character stats to ensure balanced and exciting gameplay. Prepare for a journey filled with mystery, peril, and choices that will shape the future of Kalendia. Will you rise to the challenge, or will darkness consume you?

About me

Hey! My name is Michael, and I love creating worlds, building characters, and telling stories. I also like hosting games with a good balance of RP and combat. I love seeing what kind of shenanigans players can come up with and trying to create genuinely heartfelt moments in the games. If you're looking to push the boundaries of what you can accomplish as a player, I want to play with you.

Michael has been a very kind and patient DM for a bunch of newbies - helping us understand the rules and navigate interactions without dying immediately - and his descriptions and voices have been great -- I'm always completely engrossed into the world :) Would definitely recommend!!

Michael has been great! My 1st real campaign in dnd & first time trying it online. He is great for beginner players and creates an environment where you can ask questions and not feel silly. Also, the rule of cool is true & he makes your ideas play out.

Michael was a great DM for my session with him. He progressed the plot along at a comfortable pace making sure that the party was neither being rushed along nor waiting unnecessarily for the next encounter to occur. He played the NPCs humorously and differing from each other, I always knew who I was talking to and what type of character they were going to be from the way they spoke and the movements that they made. Great session 5/5 stars.

Character creation
Creating your character

PREMADE CHARACTER SHEETS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST Sheets will be made on D&D Beyond. Characters will start at level 9. Stats are selected using Point Buy. No encumbrance. No banned species or classes from official sourcebooks. Homebrew classes and species are allowed upon approval. My general guideline for Homebrew classes and species is that they need to be chosen for character reasons, not mechanical ones. In other words, if you have a roleplay or backstory idea that doesn't match what's in the rulebooks, awesome. We'll figure out the best way to make it work. If you're trying to find a way to derail the planned campaign and encounters, that's also awesome. I encourage it. I do not aid it.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

PREMADE CHARACTER SHEETS AVAILABLE Players will need an account on D&D Beyond for character sheets, a discord account to contact me with any questions, and access to Google Meet for sessions. Microphones are required. Webcams and headphones are strongly encouraged. Session 0 will feature a walkthrough of character creation for all players.

What Michael brings to the table

I will be hosting the game using a combination of DND Beyond and Google Meet. I have access to most source books, and am willing to go find more if a player has a character idea. I do character voices to help me keep the various NPCs straight in my head. I think they're pretty good, but I'll let you be the judge. I have never hosted a session with ambient music before, and would like to experiment with it this campaign. If it isn't working we will adjust. In general, I tend to lean more "Rule of Cool." I strongly encourage players to attempt shenanigans. I tend to use the rules as a guideline to keep storytelling consistent and more unpredictable, as opposed to a rigid set of limitations on what characters can and cannot do.

Safety
How Michael creates a safe table

In Session 0, we will be sure to have a moment to go over any triggers or sources of discomfort players have so I can avoid them during gameplay. I will maintain an open door policy for any player who has concerns during games. I will also provide a post-session talk where layers can bring up any concerns they have.
