About the adventure

Adventure Awaits in the Frozen North: Rime of the Frostmaiden Welcome to Icewind Dale, a land of enduring winter, where the sun never rises, and the winds whisper an ancient curse. The people of the Ten-Towns huddle by their fires, haunted by the relentless cold and the mysterious force that has plunged their home into an endless night. But all is not lost. In this frozen wilderness, where hope seems as brittle as the ice beneath your feet, adventurers are in high demand, as the local leadership tries to contend with what could be the work of a deity. Is it superstition? Or is there truth in the whispers of a resurgence of the God of Winter and Ice? What Awaits You? Rime of the Frostmaiden is more than just a quest; it’s a journey into the heart of a mystery older than the mountains themselves. As an adventurer in this perilous campaign, you will traverse the icy tundra, navigate treacherous blizzards, and explore ancient ruins buried deep beneath the snow. Your mission: to survive, to protect the people of the Ten-Towns, and to unravel the chilling enigma that has gripped this land. The cold is coming...but so are you...

About me

Hi! I am a musician, writer and arts fundraiser who has been playing Dungeons & Dragons on and off since I was a kid. In the last couple of years I started GM'ing online and have really enjoyed being able to meet people all over the world and setting the stage for them in my favorite game. I see TTRPG's (table top role-playing games) as an art form, and enjoy creating a positive environment for players to really express themselves in the ongoing collaborative narrative. It's a great feeling to be the catalyst for other peoples enjoyment of this great game and I liken it to performing live music. While I'm relatively new to this format, I am absolutely obsessed with bringing the best experience I can to any table I run. I welcome players of any background and experience level with a focus on storytelling, roleplaying, and immersion and most of all providing a little respite from the complexities of the world we are in. I look forward to exploring with you!

Character creation

Creating your character

-You will first want to get a D&D Beyond account and create a level 1 character. You can also use pre-gen characters. -When you join, I will help you with this process if you need. We will have a short meet and discuss your character, then go over everything in the session 0. Looking forward to playing with you! Mike

What to expect

Preparing for the session

-Players should have a working mic and camera as well as a stable internet connection. Video is optional of course, but highly recommended. -Players should start a DnD Beyond account here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/ -Players should start a Discord account and preferably download the app for their device. Link here: https://discord.com/ -Players don't need an owlbear account to play in the VTT. -When you join the game, I will give you the link to the Owlbear VTT.

What GM Mike D brings to the table

-The entire sharable DnD Beyond source book library for all players to peruse. -Quality maps and tokens as well as curated music to increase the immersion and ambience of the adventure. -Attention to detail, NPC voices, narrative design. -I'm a rule of cool DM for the most part, and keep all combat rolls visible. I have some house rules on certain things we can go over. -There will be some, but not tons of survival mechanics to add a sense of realism to the game. I'm flexible on this, so if something is not working out, please let me know out of game. -If you have an image of the character you would like to play, I can make tokens for you for the virtual table top (VTT). -I feature digital props like custom handwritten letters, treasure maps, soundtracks and other odds and ends to add flavor and depth to the campaign. -I have patience and understanding for new players...it can seem daunting if you have never tried a table top role-playing game (TTRPG) but I will be very available. -My background in literature, music, art and acting help me bring a sense of place and purpose to the campaign setting. You will not feel like you are playing a turned based video game, but engaging in a fulfilling cooperative story in a rich, detailed world. I see myself not as a game master, but more of a world setter, and believe it is important for the players to be the primary authors. -Well organized and well described battles that are deep without being cumbersome.

Safety

How GM Mike D creates a safe table

I like to try to meet up with players before hand if time allows so we can get to playing during the first session. This is free, and can count as session 0 if I can get with everyone before the campaign begins. If not, session 0 will be scheduled for all, and serve as a means of going over our safety protocols, tool needs and player /GM expectations. We will go over backstories and try to flesh out your characters, as well as covering basic house rules. -When you sign up for the game, I'll send a link Discord server, where you can find a few docs to read and peruse, as well as links to the other tools we will be using. -I will be available most normal workday hours to help you with any questions that may pop up about the process. -I feel strongly about sessions 0 . I want you to feel like this table will meet your needs before you start paying. Please feel free to communicate to me at any time about concerns or ways to improve the game. -Beginners, BIPOC & LGBTQIA2S+ welcome of course.
