About the adventure
Step into the vast, ever-evolving world of Ursus Arktos, where adventurers, artisans, and guild members alike weave their destinies into the rich tapestry of a living, interconnected world. Whether you’re a seasoned hero or brand new to tabletop role-playing games, this Play-by-Post (PbP) campaign offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in collaborative storytelling at your own pace. In this campaign, you’ll begin your journey within the Guilds of Ursus Arktos, powerful factions that govern crafting, potion-making, enchanting, monster hunting, and more. Each guild offers unique opportunities: retrieve rare ingredients from treacherous caverns, hunt down dangerous creatures terrorizing villages, or uncover secrets hidden in the shadows of rival guilds. Your actions could tip the balance of power, spark alliances—or rivalries—and leave a lasting mark on the world. This is more than a campaign—it’s a living world. All campaigns set in Ursus Arktos run on the same timeline, and the choices made by one group ripple across the others. Your adventures will lead you to bustling towns, mysterious temples, treacherous wildernesses, and thriving markets where you can trade, explore, and interact with a dynamic cast of NPCs. PbP gameplay is perfect for players with busy schedules, allowing you to post when you have time and jump back into the action whenever you’re ready. This campaign is designed to be welcoming to new players while offering enough depth and complexity to keep seasoned adventurers engaged. Expect a balance of roleplay, problem-solving, and exploration, with combat taking a back seat to creativity and collaboration. Ready to weave your story into the Threads of Fate? Join the Guilds of Ursus Arktos, and let’s build something extraordinary together!

About me
Hey guys! I'm Lucas! I started playing D&D in the mid '80s, my older cousins introduced it to me. It didn't take long for me to dive into the role of Game Master - a hobby I did proudly all the way through colllege. I took a break from D&D after college when I started a family and jumped head first into "Corporate America" but rekindled my love for the game about three years ago after sustaining an injury and being forced into an early "retirement" I jumped back into the role of Game Master a year ago and although I've tried various other tabletop RPGs, I always find my way back to D&D. Outside of gaming, I'm a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and love even attending local team games with friends and family. I was once a +4 handicap golfer but had to give up the sport after my work injury. Fun fact: My all-time favorite D&D character is a Kender Thief named "Jarl" which just so happens to have been the first character I ever played.

Creating your character
Characters will be created individually with assistance from the DM as needed. I usually setup a group text message for each campaign so the players can chat together and bounce ideas off of each other as they design their PCs. We will also go over PC design and setup in Session Zero to fine tune each of them.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should prepare by reading the provided rules and necessary documents. You will require a voice connection to Discord as well as access to DNDBeyond and Owlbear.rodeo. All of these tools are free to use as well as being completely web based. However, Discord and DNDBeyond both offer downloadable apps. Since all tools are digital printing of character sheets or other information is not required, but could possibly be helpful.
What Lucas G | Ursus Arktos brings to the table
As the DM, my role extends beyond simply facilitating the game. Here's what I bring to the table: 1. **Experience**: I've been immersed in DnD since the mid-90s and have been running five concurrent campaigns set in Ursus Arktos. This experience allows me to create deeply immersive and complex narratives, while still catering to players of all experience levels. 2. **Creative Homebrew Content**: I employ an array of unique homebrew and table rules designed to increase interaction, promote story building, and add an element of uniqueness to your gaming experience. 3. **Dynamic & Evolving World**: I've designed Ursus Arktos to be a world that responds and changes based on your actions. This isn't a static universe; it's a dynamic and evolving setting where the players have real agency. 4. **Player-Centered Narrative**: I work closely with each player to integrate their characters' backstories into the overarching narrative. This campaign is about your characters and their development; the world merely provides the canvas. 5. **Interactive Equipment**: I use a unique homebrew system for ancestral weapons that evolve with your characters. It adds another level of personalization and strategy to the game. 6. **Quality Visual Aids**: I use professional-grade maps and tokens, along with AI-generated character art for the PCs, their weapons, magic items, and enemies. 7. **Use of Top-Notch Tools**: I use DNDBeyond for character management and rules referencing, Owlbear for encounter tracking and management, and Discord for communication and sessions. These tools ensure a smooth and streamlined experience for all participants. 8. **Rule of Cool**: While mechanics are important, I believe that epic moments and incredible narratives often surpass strict adherence to the rules. I'm always open to creative solutions and actions from players. As the DM, I am committed to making each session engaging, interactive, and memorable. My aim is to create a space where each player feels valued and where their actions have significant impacts. I am here not just to run the game, but to collaborate with you in weaving a truly epic tale."
