About the adventure
Humanity's fate was sealed, long ago. But accepting fate has never been humanity's forte. You must take up arms, and defend the Last Bastion. The Bastion is fortified, and tightly controlled by military authority, at least at first. Its fortifications are battered by the continual assaults of the leviathans, and unrest threatens to tear it apart from within. Should the Bastion fall, humanity will surely fall with it. ✨Cast off the mundane and transcend to your true self ✨ The Bastion is also where consequences of the protagonists’ missions might manifest, perhaps as a district damaged during the recent leviathan assaults, or crowds clashing with authorities enforcing new rationing restrictions. ✨Oppose the tyranny attempting to rein in control ✨ The Engines — ancient machines and relics of past civilizations — along side their pilots (That's you!), represent the last hope for humanity’s survival. Engines are semi-sentient combat mechs, each unique from the others. Precious few remain, and no more can be built. ✨When a pilot and their Engine are truly attuned—in their hearts, their minds, and their hopes—they both unlock their full potential ✨ The Leviathans’ goals and methods are strange, and ultimately unknowable. The pilots might find ways to relate to them, but the Leviathans will not be reconciled with the Bastion’s institutions. Only by connecting with your Engine can you stand a chance of stopping the Leviathans, and saving humanity!

About me
As a lifelong hobbyist, my enthusiasm for roleplaying games was born from unforgettable shenanigans shared with close friends around a table in some basement. That same love has spawned countless friendships and encouraged me to join and contribute to a number of great communities, including store-driven Adventurer's Leagues and Cons. I have even been fortunate enough to make a living producing accessories for tabletop games, so it's no exaggeration to say that my life revolves around roleplaying games. I cut my teeth on D&D 3.x and had the rewarding experience of my first group of players being ready to explore countless other systems. Looking at the subtle beauty in new mechanics and the nuances that tie them into their settings and stories is a personal passion of mine, one that I love to share. Facilitating a new player learning a system, whether it's their first go at Dungeons & Dragons or their latest foray beyond, is one of my favorite opportunities. I own a myriad of unique RPGs and have read most of them, but I am always eager to hear about new potential experiences and unique stories to be told. Sharing our stories and love of games is what makes tabletop roleplaying games so special. I hope you'll allow me to share some of the things I love with you.

Creating your character
Using the On a Sea of Stars series, we'll craft a world as a table during session 0. Including the forces of opposition and the topics which the game will touch on, subject to Lines & Veils to ensure everyone at the table's comfort. Characters will be created along side the creation of the series, with the goal of creating a narratively interwoven set of struggles, champions, friends and backstories linking them all together. Simply come ready with a collaborative mindset and potentially an arch-type or loose idea of a character you'd like to play. Consider inspiration such as Evangelion, Diebuster and Revolutionary Girl Utena.
✨ New players always welcome welcome! ✨ Join an rag-tag group of daring pilots featuring: 🎵 Lugh, a Time Traveler seeking to avert the catastrophes he's witnessed; 💥 Renee, a Harmony picking up the pieces in the wake of betrayal; 🏅 Alyssa, an Unlikely Hero who has been thrust center stage; Weekly game.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To participate in the chat on Discord, you'll need a mic. Webcams aren't necessary, but they can help improve communication. Discord accounts are free and you should install the software before the game. I'll provide a link to my personal Discord server for the game. Roll20 accounts are also free and will allow you to access visual handouts and character sheets. All you need is a web browser to use Roll20. You don't need to know the rules beforehand. If you're familiar with Blades in the Dark or similar games, it may help you learn faster. I'll teach you the rules as we play, and I'll help you translate your intentions into the rules where necessary. Your only concern should be enjoying the game and bringing your character to life. You can use physical dice if you have a favorite set, but you only need two six-sided dice. You can also use Roll20's in-app rolling, and the Girl by Moonlight set up on Roll20 will automate the rolls according to the rules.
What Travis D. brings to the table
I'll provide the voice server via Discord and the Roll20 campaign link. Roll20 has full playbook options, tokens, and maps to set the stage for the game. While most of the game will be Theater of the Mind, we'll use Roll20 sheets for tracking conditions and label shifts. I have a great command of the system and love helping players get into a new game. I also enjoy helping people find their voice or style or roleplaying, and creating a comfortable environment we can explore together. Open-ended games like this require adaptability and on-the-fly adjustments, and together with the players I look forward to exploring the collaborative world we create. Expect cinematic styling, off screen reveals and an immersive story built around the PCs.

How Travis D. creates a safe table
𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝒃𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 is a game about the tragic struggles and defiant triumphs of a group of magical girls resisting an oppressive society. It explores the heartbreak of denying who you really are, and the transcendent power of relationships and community. The protagonist are friends, rivals, love interests, allies… and always teammates, joint stars of their series, and heroes. 𝑨𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒃𝒚𝒔𝒔 is about redemption and heroism. It has an optimistic outlook, in which monsters have hearts—often fragile broken hearts, in need of healing. The transcendent powers of the protagonists are a pure and truly good thing, and they use that power to change the world for the better. There’s still danger and struggle, but ultimately this series aims for an uplifting and optimistic narrative. Lines & Veils will help us handle sensitive content and agree upon which subjects are off limits. The comfort of the table is a key priority in any game, and while this game will likely deal with topics not noted in the content warning section, every effort will be made to ensure player safety. This game will feature a heavy amount of Roleplay; That doesn't mean you must do character voices, or even speak in character if you find that difficult, but it does mean being invested in your character and their experience. Who are they? What would they do in this situation, might it be a bad choice, but the choice they'd make? How does whats unfolding around them shape their life, and where will they end up by trying to react to these happenings? It doesn't mean we need to know in advance these answers, rather much we'll be Playing to Find Out, and along the way guiding the story of these young heroes. Sharing the Spotlight and juggling the action, as well as the beats of the story, primarily fall in my responsibilities, but feel free to suggest alterations to scenes or exciting ideas. As long as we share the table respectfully and don't talk other each other, we're all taking on all the roles of director, actor and audience collectively in this game. And who knows what is fun to watch better than an audience themselves? Game will be held on Discord (Mic required, webcam optional but encouraged), with player aids, handouts and characters sheets on Roll20. Primarily a Theater of the Mind game. Lines & Veils handled with handout on Roll20, and Breaks will be 5-10 minutes at the top of the hour unless everyone is too caught up in the game (or we prefer a single break in the middle). Stepping away for any reason is also completely fine, but if able please check in if it's a slight pause the table can wait for or if you prefer not to interrupt the flow of the game. Post game debrief will occur wrapping up the session, but feel free to use StartPlaying to message any additional thoughts that occur later before the next game. Stars and Wishes can be discussed before stepping away as well, but will also have a Roll20 post for the game so there is no stress to think of all the cool things you'd like to see immediately.
