The Clockwork Condottieri | Renaissance RP-Heavy Monster Mystery
About the adventure
Join us as we co-create a world of magic, Musketeers, monsters, and myth! The "Fallen Age" of warfare and misery ended only 10 years ago with the beginning of the Renaissance. Your country is the pinnacle of civilization. It is an extraordinary time to be alive! Don't mind all those new monsters, I'm sure it's fine... In this mid-length campaign, the Hunters are members of the Clockwork Condottieri, a group of mercenaries who protect innocent (or wealthy) people from lamias, hydras, and other once-mythical monsters. You can expect fun, narrative-centered combats mixed with investigation and heavy roleplay-focused scenes, with your character's development, backstories, and personal agendas as a core part of our story. We use the framework of the "Dreaming with the Gods" published setting as our starting point and co-create the story from there. ***** Photo credit to Ekaterina Belenskaya via Pexels. About me
I tripped and fell over GMing when I ran a "3-month" 7th Sea campaign at the end of college that is still going today, 16 years later. I've run several other campaigns and a whole ton of convention one-shots, including games at the convention I helped run for a number of years. I'm a professional GM because gaming is the most fun thing I can imagine doing for money! and because I want to share my skills with more people. Collaborative storytelling is a powerful way to enjoy life and transform ourselves, and I think everyone should do it. One of my favorite things is introducing new players to role-playing, so reach out if you're a newbie in need of mentoring! Especially because my games often run toward more intense themes, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and feeling safe is a huge priority. At my tables we talk about triggers ahead of time and work through interpersonal conflict as often as we can. That said, people just interested in spreading hurtful stereotypes are not welcome to stay. LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent GM welcoming all your identities, especially the marginalized ones. Outside of gaming, I'm a Pagan spiritual leader, singer, parent of 4, and avid gardener. What amazing stories will we tell together?

so im leaving this reveiw beacuse for the first time I realise that a game master has allowed me to understand and play social games, for the most part I don't understand social implications in real life and its super good and satisfying to be able to play a game and understand them as they are really well, and clearly explained. it makes the game wonderfully interesting for people of all brain types
Piper has an amazing personality that just invites others to feel comfortable and brings out laughter and great RP moments. Mix that with a good amount of experience with what makes for a good game, and a stellar focus on the characters and how they build the story and you have a recipe for a great time. I had so much fun playing at Pipers table, and would recommend everyone to join one of their games
Just played my first game of Alice is Missing with Piper and they were absolutely phenomenal! Super knowledgeable on the game, kept everything running smooth and was super patient as I was learning! They were also fantastic at creating a safe and inclusive space that made it incredibly easy to really get into character and enjoy the story! Super chill person with a very obvious and infectious love for TTRPGs. Highly, highly recommend!!
Character creation
Creating your character
You're joining this campaign near its very beginning. We've chosen an organization to be part of - the Clockwork Condottieri - and built our first Hunters: -Rosa, the Gumshoe, a disillusioned former Queen's Musketeer -Noxx, the Spooktacular, a traveling performer turned reluctant monster fighter -Maena, the Hex, a mystical alchemist working without the authorities' approval -Morpheus, the Divine, a person? with mysterious powers from Dream
For those experienced with Monster of the Week: we currently have the Gumshoe, the Hex, and the Spooktacular in play. Most other Playbooks are allowed, with modifications to suit the Renaissance period.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The best preparation for this game is to dream about the kinds of stories in this genre that inspire you. Think of your favorite Egyptian, Greek, or Roman myths. I want to know your specific delights in these genres so we can fold them into our narrative. For practicalities: Good audio and video help a lot! Make sure you have a working camera and mic for your laptop. Players in my games have video on by default -- facial cues help so much, both for making friends and for knowing when we're talking over each other! You'll join my Discord server, Oaksong Games, as our main gaming platform. For sessions, you'll need at least 2 6-sided dice.
What Connor brings to the table
I am a narrative-focused GM who builds a story collaboratively with players. Your characters will also have a lot of growth and spotlight moments through both adventures and down-time roleplaying scenes. For "Dreaming with the Gods" specifically, I bring 17 years of GMing games set in this Renaissance-Swashbuckling era, including Musketeer, Pirate, Magical-Europe, and Renaissance-Horror campaigns. I also provide my conflict resolution training, teaching background, and many years of professional leadership facilitating groups. I help new and shy players be heard in the group and encourage more confident players to make space for everyone. I'm always ready to hear what you need for this space to truly meet your needs, and I thrive on direct player feedback.

How Connor creates a safe table
I use narrative systems like Monster of the Week because they are easy to learn and support our creativity within a simple structure. Don't worry if you've never played this one before. You'll be ready to go in no time! I'm also delighted to welcome experienced MotW players who are excited about this story. At all of my tables, we practice emotional safety as absolutely essential. When we do get into disagreements or step on one another's toes, I will help guide us to a graceful resolution so that everyone feels safe and heard before diving back into our story. Players who aren't interested in supporting one another's emotional well-being will need to find another game. Please look over the list of likely triggers for this campaign, below, and reach out with any questions.
