About the adventure

Welcome to No Room For A Wallflower Act 1, an introductory campaign for Lancer! This game will take us from LL0 to LL5. This is roughly the equivalent of a character in D&D going from level 1 to around level 7. I will be running this game with the intention of making it approachable for anyone new to the system, while still delivering on what makes Lancer such a unique gem of a game. Business as usual, up until it came. A simple signal, using old tech, found it's way into our sensor range. A distress call from some high risk firm on a long forgotten diasporan rock. They are gonna need a squad, chassis pilots, combat ready. At first, we didn't think this was going to be much more than a slight detour. Hercynia, the planet that inspired the biggest civil war in galactic history, paving the way for The Third Committee to take control of The Union, had been lost to the recesses of space. War disrupted communications and supply lines, resulting in the abandon of the emerald world following the attempt by The Second Committee to destroy the planets life sustaining biosphere. Now, amid blast craters, slowly Hercynia is healing. That's when Landmark Colonial showed up. A high risk firm that bought colony rights, owned by SSC, y'know, the cloning people. And now they need help with what seems like a rebellion, or insurgency, something to that effect. So we're gonna send a Lancer team down planetside, and for that, we need to wake them from stasis. Get a team and a Handler up to speed, we have work to do!

About me

Hello There! Welcome to my page! I've been DMing for a long time and have specialized in helping new players develop and grow in the hobby of TTRPG's. My preferred system is D&D 5e, but I also have some experience with the Chronicles of Darkness and World of Darkness systems. I've familiarized myself with a multitude of systems over the years so if you want to homebrew mechanics, I have a wealth of knowledge to work with. I have my own homebrew settings that can be played as One-Shot modules, or as full scale campaigns. I house rule specific things within either of my preferred systems to favor the quality of life for my players. I take my time resolving in-game events. The only thing I ask is that I receive the same respect and patience that I will show you as we progress. Roll Initiative, let's get started!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur at Session 0 for the starting mechs and pilots. We will slowly progress up from License Level 0, meaning that character creation options are limited and focused, and they are all available for free through COMP/COM (which I will direct players through and provide assistance with then importing the resulting character data into the Owlbear extension for Lancer).

The current party

Come join us for a beginner friendly entry to the world of Lancer in this narrative campaign! Will you exorcise the ghosts of old Hercynia? Will Union's legacy be nothing but fire and death? Lets find out together. See ya out there Lancer.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a mic and a discord account in good standing to connect to the voice chat, as well as to agree to the rules of my discord server upon joining. An account with COMP/CON will be needed but this does not need to be made ahead of time, I can and will assist. Camera's and your own dice are optional. Pen and paper are always recommended for any TTRPG in the event you benefit from having them available.

What Ben "The GM in the Keep" brings to the table

I will provide a virtual tabletop (Owlbear Rodeo) along with a dice rolling bot integration and character sheet enabled plugin (Witchdice) and assist players in the use of a cloud based service that will enable them to create character sheets and import them (COMP/CON). I will also provide access to a Discord server designed with organization and ease of use in mind. A working microphone is required, but a camera is optional.

How Ben "The GM in the Keep" creates a safe table

A break is planned in every session to use the bathroom, decompress, get something to eat etc. Using emoji's in Discord DM's as a means of anonymous XNO cards is available, as is a built in X card in the recommended Dice Rolling resource provided to the players. As an added precaution, a session 0 will be made available to players, along with an Open Door policy to facilitate discussion and dissection of any content players would like to examine. Beyond that, Open Door policy discussions are held in confidence (though I reserve the right to ask my moderators for opinions on issues that might be objectionable. In such an event, anonymity will be preserved to the best of my ability.) I encourage players to make use of these tools, as I hold the firm belief that we can have games that feature deep, complex, or dark topics, without sacrificing the personal comfort of the table's members.
