About the adventure

Calling all Lancers for a new campaign set in the Karrakin Trade Barony! This beginner friendly campaign will follow a group of soldiers from the Karrakin Trunk Security Forces and their journey on the Planet Krillona. Their they will find themselves in the midst of a rebellion, lead by freed clone-workers, Karrakin ignobles, and Krillonian old-guard, against the House of Brass, a Minor House focused on innovation and research for the House of Stone, with the Karrakin Trunk Security force pushing their way into the conflict on the premise of "peacekeeping". After a month of deployments and combats, the group will come to a shocking realization, and will have the opportunity to split from the KTS, and form their own Mercenary Company, taking on the contracts they want from any of the factions on Krillona. This campaign is set in a planet-wide war, with the players coming in as the unknown factor. This campaign will be a sandbox set on the planet, Krillona, with some opportunity to visit other moons/stations/planets. The players will choose any and all missions they'd like to pursue. There will be plenty of tactical combat, as well as roleplaying. This campaign starts at License Level 0, and is perfect for experienced players and new players alike. It will eventually make use of the Manna System introduced in the Long Rim Supplement, as well as the Bonds System introduced in the KTB supplement. Session's 0 and 1 will be free, and held ~1 week apart, and from then onwards sessions will be $10/session, and held once every 2-4 weeks (schedule permitting).

About me

Experienced GM for Lancer, the Mech RPG. Love the lore and the mechanics of the game, and I love seeing the strategies that my players come up with to solve the challenges I present them! Looking to have a great time with a fun group, everyone is welcome!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created prior to Session 1, with some guidance being presented in Session 0. Lancer is very specific on how characters are created, so refer to the FREE Lancer Player Rulebook. The COMP/CON companion web-app is also free, and is a character creation tool that will be used for this campaign. It will walk players through character creation. All players will be starting at License Level 0. All Official First-Party Lancer Content is welcome, and certain Home-Brew/Third Party supplements will be used as well. A full list will be presented in Session 0.

The current party

The current players have formed a mercenary company and are about to partake in the first Pankrati Mekani match on the planet Krillona! Wary of tipping off the House of Brass and Karrakin Trunk Security, they devise a plan to stay anonymous...

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have Discord Accounts and microphones (default mic or external, doesn't matter), as discord voice chat will be the primary mode of communication during the game sessions. Webcams are welcome but not necessary. Players will need to have a COMP/CON account. It's free to make an account, but the account is necessary so that they can share their character sheets with me, so that I can see what they're using and answer any questions regarding licenses, talents, etc they may have. I will be using OwlBear Rodeo for the encounters, as well as the Witch Dice extension for Lancer. This streamlines rolling for the players and myself. They will need OwlBear Rodeo accounts. Players will need to have partially read the rules before Session 1, and ideally before Session 0 so that any rules questions can be addressed at length there. Players are free to make their own characters, or use the mechanical-defaults provided on COMP/CON. If they choose to use a default, they'll need to fill in a relevant back story.

What Ben P brings to the table

We will be using OwlBear Rodeo and the Witch Dice extension for Lancer, as well as COMP/CON (Lancer character creation companion web-app). This will be discussed early on so players know what they're getting into. All maps will be made by me, and NPC tokens will come from Retrograde Minis. Players can use whatever tokens they'd like, I will import them. I usually have some background music playing during roleplay, and I have a playlist of "Danger Zone Tracks" that players can add songs to for combat. Alternatively, I have a combat playlist. I do my best with NPC voices, not the greatest but I try (they may sound a little silly). Lancer combat is tactical and in-depth, and I will run it as such. Each battle is a puzzle of terrain, objective, and NPC composition, and it's the players job to solve the puzzle, either elegantly or by repainting the pieces and putting them together. I will mostly stick to the Rules as Written during combat, but I will certainly lean on the Rule of Cool for roleplaying situations and non-combat puzzles.

Safety

How Ben P creates a safe table

Players will receive a Lines and Veils Google Form before Session 0. Players can include their name, or leave it anonymous. During session 0, the Lines and Veils will be established based on the results. Session 0 will go over the themes of Lancer, the themes of the campaign, my expectations, and the players expectations. Will also discuss common rules queries. Players are always able to take a break from the Campaign as needed, and will not impact the other players either. I'm always open to people' suggestions and troubles, and I'll do my best to act on anything I am told to change.
