About me

TL;DR: Immersive Mothership for new players Hey Spacer, If you think Mothership looks cool, let's play. Another Bug Hunt's first scenario has been some of the most fun I've had RPG-ing in a long time. You should share in that fun too! I enjoy player-driven experiences rich with narrative. My goal when playing RPGs is to seek the same sense of wonder I feel when reading a good novel. To attain that, rather than pre-write stories I come up with in my head, we meet at the (virtual) table to discover the story. Narratives unfold in unforeseen ways. Paired with the structure of Mothership modules, we have the formula for perfect sci-fi horror. Saddle up!

My two kids and I just finished a game of Mothership with Andrew. He was fantastic! He used vivid and descriptive imagery and made the game feel tense and alive. He used Owlbear Rodeo for maps and it worked out really well. He knows the adventure forwards and backwards and was very accommodating and willing to ensure that we all had a good experience. Everyone had the opportunity to make critical decisions and to make the ending as epic as we wanted it to be! The end game in Mothership is Solve, Save or Survive and you can't do all three. And that's exactly how it ended! Highly recommended!

Thank you for running the Mothership game. As a first-time player, I genuinely appreciated how expertly Andrew introduced me to the game system, making the experience engaging.

I had a great first experience with Mothership thanks to Andrew! He ran a beginner friendly session without having to frontload a bunch of rules. The remote play tech he chose worked really well. Will definitely join him for a game in the future!

Andrew was great for me as a newbie player. Clear and inclusive, and openly celebrated when players did something cool.

Andrew was excellent at running Mothership for our ragtag group of misfits explorers. He's always open for a cool idea and leaving it up to fate to see how it plays out. His introduction to the rules as the game played on was very helpful and encouraged each of us to join in at the table. I suggest joining Andrew's table if you're interested in trying out mothership.

Character creation
Creating your character

Mothership character creation is breezy & fun, involving lots of random rolling. There's a Character Creation app for iPhone / Android which I encourage you to use. We will do creation live with the group so we can discover the party together. This usually takes about 20-30 minutes. After that, we'll drop in and play your first session of Mothership.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You'll need a microphone & a computer screen to play this one. I use OwlbearRodeo for our VTT, mostly as a mood board / table to pin documents. Voice communication / music happens on Discord. Digital dice are available through a Discord app, or you're free to use your own. I recommend printing out both a Basic & Advanced character profile from https://www.tuesdayknightgames.com/pages/mothership-resources-downloads The Basic profile guides new players through character creation, while the Advanced profile is a cleaner, minimalist sheet. Otherwise, bring a pen & a few scraps of paper to take notes. Much of the game takes place in the theatre of the mind, with the map being lightly referenced.

What Andrew brings to the table

VTT: Owlbear.rodeo (free) Maps: Mothership modules provide a great assortment of game maps. Tokens: Feel free to send me character art; it's quick & easy to make them into map tokens. **I don't care to measure distances, but tokens are a great way to visualize positioning when SHTF!

Safety
How Andrew creates a safe table

Lines and veils works well for me. I won't be gratuitous around sensitive topics, rather fading to black with as much taste as possible. If there are things you really don't want to see in the game, reach out privately & I'll be sure to respect that boundary / enforce it if necessary.
