About the adventure

TL;DR: The Wild Beyond the Witchlight: A Feywild Adventure" is an official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition adventure module that takes players on a whimsical and mysterious journey into the Feywild, a realm of enchantment and capricious magic. The adventure is designed for characters of levels 1-8 (or 3-10) and provides an opportunity to explore the Feywild's unique landscapes, creatures, and challenges. Full Description: In "The Wild Beyond the Witchlight," characters find themselves mysteriously transported to the Feywild, a realm of both breathtaking beauty and unpredictable danger. The adventure begins when characters attend the renowned Witchlight Carnival, a traveling fair that has arrived in their home realm, in search of unique and precious treasure which have been lost to them. Yet the players soon find that their treasures have been swept away farther than the carnival, and they are whisked away to the Feywild—a place where the laws of nature and reality are in constant flux.

About me

If you love story-centric, roleplay-strong gamepIay with some kickass combat and thematic battlemaps, I'm the GM for you! I think collaborative storytelling is one of our most unique and incredible artforms, and my approach as a GM reflects that. We're telling a story together, so your character will be integral to the world we build, and you'll have agency in your choices that will shape the story as it goes. Every voice around the table matters, and each of us should be comfortable and having fun. I work hard at understanding what excites and entertains each of my players so that everyone is uniquely prioritized and gets their moment in the sun, whatever that looks like for them! As a GM, I love worldbuilding and lore, and creating a unique world to explore and interact with is important to me - even if that world is a pre-written, I'll always put my own spin on it and make sure my players' choices can shape and impact the narrative - *pirate voice* they're more like guidelines, anyway.* I also love to build dramatic moments, high stakes, and intriguing moral decisions for my players, in a world that has depth and nuance. Each group around a table is completely unique, so I'll ask for feedback and input along the way and trust you to give it honestly to make the best play experience for all of us. Let's get a game going!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at level 1 or level 3, depending on the preference of the players around each particular table. Characters will be created prior to the session through a link to D&D Beyond. Any players who want help with character creation can arrive the hour prior to Session 0 for assitance (or, on a case-by-case basis, a player can request a separate time for character creation before Session 0). At a minimum, players must incorporate two characteristics to their character: 1) a reason and willingness to work in a group 2) a deep and driving desire to recover their stolen treasure How players flavor these characteristics is up to them, and I'd love as much backstory as a player is willing to give me! Those are just the minimum requirements necessary for a party member. Any character, session, or safety questions can be shared with the DM ahead of time via StartPlaying messaging or Discord server link.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All players will need to join the Discord server for ease of communication and story tracking. Players will be asked to create a free D&D Beyond account to communally join the one-shot - if for some reason the player can't or won't join D&D Beyond, the player can work out other means of character creation and joining with the DM. Players will need to read the session hook, create a character accordingly, take the safety survey, read the session rules, attend Session 0, and bring either a digital tool to read their character sheet or a physical print-out. If playing online, players will also need a webcam and working mic.

What The Game Maven brings to the table

Battlemaps, dice, note-taking materials, and generic minis will be available, though the players are of course free to bring their own dice and minis!

Safety

How The Game Maven creates a safe table

There will be a survey pre-game that only the DM will see where players can share any content they would like to avoid or have excluded from the game. During Session 0, any off-limits topics will be shared with the rest of the group along with the game rules. During a session, if anyone fails to follow the established guidelines, the DM will pause the play and remind the players of the boundaries before continuing. If the issue continues to occur with the same player, the game will be paused and that player will either be asked to leave or the session will end. Either way, there will be a debrief following the session. Players who forget or ignore the boundaries will be addressed between sessions outside the game by the DM. After two warnings - or immediately, depending on the severity of their actions - the player will be removed from the group and their character will be removed in a way that suits the story.
