The Blades in the Dark game and the system it's made with, Forged in the Dark, is a fantastic system for telling unforgettable stories. Its roots from Pbta can surface if you squint, but the mechanical weight and cleanness of it. Grab a seat at the table or even run it if you can. I have run 7 campaigns of it and adore the system and offshoots, such as Band of Blades or Wicked Ones from this gem. - Matthew Pauze (https://startplaying.games/gm/oniwolf)
Embarking on the journey of "Houses of the Blooded" under the guidance of John Wick, the creator and Storyteller, was nothing short of spellbinding. The character creation process was our first step into a world rich with noble intrigue and hidden agendas, blending elements from the beloved original and eagerly anticipated second editions. John's narrative genius shone through as our tale unfolded. We began by weaving a web of machinations against our Count's wife, only to be caught in a twist of fate when the Count was murdered. His dying wish to protect his widow turned our game into an odyssey of loyalty and honor, challenging the very essence of our characters. It was awe-inspiring to see John at work, masterfully balancing the mechanics he crafted with impromptu storytelling that kept us utterly engaged. His system was more than a set of rules; it was the heartbeat of a world that pulsed with life, inviting us to delve deeper into the lore and politics of this feudal tapestry. The emotional gravity of our Count's final plea resonated deeply, a testament to John's ability to infuse his game with poignant, human moments that linger long after the dice have settled. This experience transcended the boundaries of tabletop gaming, becoming a narrative that we lived, breathed, and felt.
