About me

I have been playing RPGs for a really long time (38 years, wow, time flies!) and primarily play fantasy RPGs. I have played many other types of RPGs over the years, all different genres, but have the most experience with the fantasy genre, and specifically, Dungeons and Dragons and its variants. My gaming preferences have evolved over time, but in general, I prefer simpler games with less emphasis on character builds, magic item acquisition, and system mastery. The less I have to focus on mechanics, the more I can invest in facilitating a fun and engaging story. I am a huge advocate for the player characters and genuinely want them to succeed; however, I also like to challenge characters and design adventures that will push characters to their limits. My strong points as a DM are story pacing, improvising scenes, and getting players involved in the game. I have experience running games for a wide range of diverse players, to include children, first-time players, players from different cultural backgrounds, neurodivergent players, and players across the LGBTQ+ spectrum. All this to say, I am excited for the opportunity to game with you and hope we can forge amazing stories together!

Johnny ran an incredibly fun game of Pathfinder 2e and would be a great GM for beginners or seasoned veterans. He came well prepared and did an excellent job helping players learn how to easily navigate the Foundry virtual tabletop user interface. I had played on Foundry a few times a few times before but felt much more confident after he explained some tips and tricks to make the most of the experience. He not only knew Foundry well, but also made Pathfinder 2e extremely easy to understand for new players to the system. He did an excellent job of making the game move along seamlessly, while still explaining how different rules worked without bogging the game down. Finally, in any online game one can expect technical glitches. They just happen. You can tell a lot about a GM in how they respond to those challenges. Johnny patiently guided me, and the other players, through several technical issues and ensured we all had an enjoyable experience. Johnny is a great GM and facilitates a great gaming experience. Highly recommended!

I have been playing in Michael's 5e D&D Descent to Avernus game for the past few months and have been thoroughly impressed with his skill as a GM. Week after week, he delivers an amazing play experience. In particular, he does a great job presenting a believable world, providing interesting non-player characters for the characters to interact with, voicing characters with a wide variety of unique voices and accents (seriously, it is impressive hearing all his different voices!), devising complex plots with twists and turns galore, setting the ambience with custom music playlists, and designing thrilling encounters that push the characters to their absolute limits. He's also extremely knowledgeable about the rules and the technology he uses (i.e., Roll20, Discord, and WatchTogether), so there is little wasted time trying to figure out how something works. In the campaign I am playing with him, he has had a wide range of player experience levels in the game, from old veterans like me all the way to first-time RPG players. He is extremely welcoming to players of all experience levels and does a great job onboarding players and quickly integrating them into the campaign. All this to say, I have played with a lot of GMs over the past 38 years and Michael is among the best I have ever played with and justly earns my highest recommendation.

Charles

I had the opportunity to play in a Swords & Wizardry game that Charles ran and found him to be an excellent gamemaster and storyteller. The adventure we played was a classic dungeoncrawl and Charles masterfully presented a living, believable environment for the players to interact with. What really stood out about him as a gamemaster was his ability and willingness to allow player character actions and decisions to matter. He presented fun, meaningful challenges and let the players figure out how to respond. While we had characters perish in our adventure, at no time did I get the sense that he took any pleasure in our characters' demises. He provided good challenges, rooted us on, and was willing to allow the narrative lead wherever the story dictated--even if that meant setbacks. This was really cool and reinforced the challenge, realism, and fun of the adventure. Charles was also very adaptable to player feedback. At one point, early in our adventure, one of our table procedures was getting in the way of the fun and unnecessarily dragging our characters' exploration of the dungeon out. Charles used this feedback to adjust his presentation style and the game ran so much smoother. This was also refreshing--sometimes old school GMs get set in their ways and this was definitely not the case with Charles. I would strongly encourage anyone interested in checking out what the Old School Renaissance (OSR) has to offer, even players who LOVE modern games, to play in one of Charles' games. He is well-equipped to present these games in a way that will make anyone understand why they have stood the test of time and are still played at many tables, even today, 50 years after the spark that started this amazing hobby. Charles earns my highest endorsement and has a lot to offer players of all gaming backgrounds.

This review is for an ad copy workshop Friday hosted, which was amazing and incredibly informative. Friday is clearly a master of her craft. During the hour-plus time we spent with her, she graciously provided a wealth of vital information and tips to help GMs be successful as a professional GM. She shed light on a lot of aspects to professional GMing I hadn’t really thought deeply about before dipping my toes in the water—customer service, marketing, presentation, user experience, community building, knowing your niche, value proposition, etc. The level of business acumen she brings to the profession is top notch and anyone considering entering this field would be remiss to not attend one of these workshops. While I haven’t played with Friday in a game, based on the professionalism she demonstrated during the one-hour workshop, I have no doubt she is an amazing GM and provides a top-notch player experience for her clients. Highly recommended!
