About me
I have been playing RPGs for 47 years, starting when I was around 9 years old. Yes, I am well over 50. I have left D&D for the 3rd time. I have played and GM several different game systems. This experience has taught me several meta skills to not only be a good player, but to encourage other players to be their best. I enjoy games where the players have some agency over the story. 2E D&D pushed for railroading and I did not like that. Take a look at the Dragonlance modules to understand my trauma. I really like the role-playing and narrative style of playing, but when the game gets stressful I will switch to a more director/meta stance. Leftover baggage from being immersed in the OSR. The last games I played with my regular group was 5E D&D Icewind Dale. Now we are playing Pulp Chululu. I have run Mythic Bastionland and adopted 1E Apocalypse World to a Western Setting. Also, my own D&D games and really independent RPGs as one-shots. My greatest strengths as a player: 1) I know I am part of a team. Players can fall into stereotypes, some good and some bad. I typically fall into "progression support" for the team. I do not hog the spot-light, but will encourage progressing the story. If there is a player who wants to make all the decisions, I will let them. I will try influence them, but I will not let it disrupt the game. If there is a player who is shy or not interacting, I will attempt to engage them. 2) I know what it is like to be a GM. I will always come around to making sure my character's actions will lead to progressing the story.
