About me
OK, that original "About" was really boring...not that this is much better... My son recently described me as a nerd who got old. I was introduced to fantasy literature and D&D around the same time - junior high school. Fell in love with the concept of RPG and the fantasy themes. Read all the classics and some of the not so classics, and played D&D at every opportunity up to and through college, as well as some other RPG systems that may not even be around any more (RoleMaster). When I got into the "real world" and had to be an "adult", I stopped playing - moved away from my old group, and this was before Discord (or, basically, the internet). Was away for, sadly, decades, but got back involved about 7 years ago when my kids were of an age to start being interested. Only discovered StartPlaying and the joys of virtual D&D in 2025. And here we are...

Wow! Great session with Zachary in Silverbridge Detective Agency. Great world building, plot, ability to allow people to role-play. Really like the serialized one-shot - allows you to both not have to commit to a campaign while still participating with the same character and have some character building and continuity across episodes. That setting is not high on combat, but for a great role-playing session, highly recommend. Hope to join another episode in the future.
Samantha listed the one-shot I just played as "Role Play Heavy", which is what I like. She took it to 11. Absolutely fantastic session - if you enjoy Role Playing, I'd highly recommend Samantha. Creative, whimsical, humorous, unique. I appreciate anyone on here that is running a game that they wholly created - Samantha did that and then some, adding unique rules / dynamics to the adventure. Only criticism is she underpriced herself - this was easily worth double the price of admission.
Complete transparency here - this session had red flags. It was a one shot I joined last minute. Description read "Combat Heavy": I prefer more role playing and combat lite. The VTT was new to me and others (TrailSpire). And when we all joined, the party chemistry wasn't there. In the first 15 minutes, I figured I had made a mistake. Several hours later, I can honestly say it was a blast. I'm still not a fan of the VTT. But Kairos made it fun; he left room for enough role playing that it didn't feel forced. I liked the mechanism he created to initiate one shots with The Storyteller. He created an immersive environment without going overly heavy on exposition. Battle felt challenging to the point I nearly commented "TPK" as one round ended - but if Kairos threw in some player friendly maneuvers to keep us alive, it was with a light touch that I can't say for sure he did. By and large the party coalesced, battles were fought, tech difficulties were nearly invisible. Rule of Cool ended up ruling. Well done to Kairos - we were a tough group and you handled it amazingly well.
