DM knows how to set the mood and establish the setting. Pretty straightforward, comes prepared, conducts himself fairly and helpful to ease into play. If you want something a bit familiar but new enough to pique your interest, he has the creative chops for that.
Got try out a free oneshot and impressed by how much thought and detail went into it. While the session was described to be Roleplay Light and emphasized the Sandbox element, I think the former was sold surprisingly short. There was plenty of Roleplay interaction between the players and NPCs both. And it was both informative of the story and entertaining. He also built up the session's Big Bad as a credible threat, while keeping the actual encounter within reasonable difficulty. Again, just a one-shot, but I felt the DM left a great first impression, especially with homebrow.
Chirstopher, from my one session with him, is a very straightforward GM. But this does not detract from his enthusiasm for storytelling. And thankfully, he was willing to share meta to keep us from RPing in circles to help move things forward. I admit, this was the mood for a more comical one-shot. The tone and style could be different for a more dedicated campaign, but what I experienced leaves a good impression in what could carry on in a more immersive campaign.
I discovered the GM's One-Shot series at the last minute after having three previous one-shots cancelled on me in a row, and I will say I lucked out in joining. I'm also thankful for his patience as I rushed out my character and wasn't just forced a premade. The GM brought a homebrew setting to the table and unveiled a fleshed out world and adventure, and his narrative brings it to life in an entertaining way. He really knows how to set up cinematic moments when they're earned, making every right roleplay decision and combat action all the more exciting. The opening hub site definitely sets up anticipation for what's to come. Really hoping the Griffin ride is a regular part of this setting. XD Overall, a great first experience If the previous cancellations were Nat 1's, perhaps running into this GM's innagural adventure for his one-shot series was a very fortunate Nat 20.
This DM chose the daunting task of running Draw Steel while essentially learning the game along with the players, and he did a great job. As he advised others to look up the pregenerated character sheets, it was clear during play that he read up on them himself ahead of time to help the rest of us out on making sure the session was as streamlined as possible, and he even allowed a good amount of creativity between us, giving me a chance at proficiency rolls that I wasn't sure how they would contribute, and he was good at throwing in reasons without breaking immersion. This was my only session with him at the time of writing, but if you wanted a review written by a StartPlaying newbie, I hope this helps.
