About Jeffrey Baker
I started playing D&D with 2nd edition. I didn't play for a long time, and started playing again with 5th edition at the end of 2019. I have considerable experience as a DM in both editions.

When I'm not running games I'm...
an archaeologist. I have conducted work in a number of states in the western US as well as in Central America.
How Jeffrey Baker runs games
I try to set an environment where the players can have fun and enjoy the game. I usually try for a mix of role playing and combat, with puzzles thrown in on a frequent basis. It is sometimes necessary to adjust the ratio of combat, role playing and puzzles based upon the interest of the group. I try to be flexible to what the group wants. For combat, I try to make things interesting by having different battlefields.

I deal with rules issues by...
During game play, I will not let play stop over long discussions about rules. I will make a decision and move forward from there. After the session is over, I will review the specific rules. If I was wrong, I'll let people know at the next session and change how I handle that rule in the future.
Rules are...
there to make sure we all understand how the game works and that all players are treated fairly and equally at the table. That said, the rule of cool can be used to make a moment more enjoyable for everyone.
Jeffrey Baker's ideal table
I try to manage tables in a manner to give everyone character their moment in the spotlight. The ratio of role playing to exploration to combat will vary depending upon the wants of the table. I try to create tables where people work together as a team.

I love it when a player
comes up with a creative solution I had not thought of.
I think metagaming...
does not belong on the table. Metagaming can ruin the fun for the people not engaged in the metagaming.
