About me
Hello, my name is Gabriel Rourke. I am a professional Game Designer, and Game Master who has been an active participant in the tabletop role-playing game hobby for the better part of four decades. During that time, I have run a vast array of game systems across a wide variety of genres. I specialise in in creating richly detailed worlds, I am a big fan of using the rules as guidelines in favor of harsh rulings. I believe that we are all here to tell a story togeather, and when you have to choose between the rules and the story usualy the story comes first. I play fast and loose with the rules, usualy favoring the players as long as the narrative tension and sense of urgancy is in place, however If you are the kind of player that wants to exploit the nuance of the rules this might not be the game for you. I try to strike a balance between roleplay and tactical combat. My battles take place on a tactical map, be it grid or hex, with an emphasis on tactical maneuvering and straigic thinking. If you enjoy these types of combat encounters my games are for you. I have run games in traditional fantasy settings within my own richly detailed campaign world, as well as in established settings such as Tolkien’s Middle-earth, TSR/WotC’s Birthright, Dark Sun, Ravenloft, Planescape, Forgotten Realms, and more recently Eberron. I have also run games in Warhammer’s The Old World, Runequest’s Glorantha, and Golarion from Pathfinder. Often mixing and matching worlds with systems. I have used these settings with many different systems and editions, including Rolemaster, Pathfinder, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Old-School Essentials, Level Up: Advanced 5E (my preferred 5E variant), D&D 4E, Dragonbane, Pathfinder 1E and 2E,, and The One Ring. Fantasy is not my only purview, however. I have also cut my teeth on Marvel Super Heroes, and have many years of experience running Champions, Mutants & Masterminds, and more recently Marvel Multiverse. I also enjoy dark, gritty cyberpunk action, and I am very much from the Shadowrun camp, which I have been running since first edition. Alternatively, I enjoy post-apocalyptic settings such as Fallout, if one wants to trade the urban sprawl for the wastelands. For science fiction, I am a big BattleTech: A Time of War fan, though I have yet to find an effective way to play it online. I have run games in the Star Wars universe using both the classic West End Games d6 system and the newer rulesets. I have also run games in the Star Trek universe using the 2d20 system. In addition, I played a great deal of Traveller in the past, and I have recently picked up Starfinder 1E and 2E, which I am very eager to bring to the table
