I played a high level one-shot. My schedule opened up and I joined the game on a whim. I’m glad to did. The setting (arcane Burning Man-adjacent) wasn’t like any other game settings I’ve encountered, in original and unexpected ways. The party entered combat fairly late. DM Nug stuck it out with us rather than call it halfway through! Combat was tactical, and enemies hit hard, but never unfairly. Highly enjoyable experience.
Appollus is exceptionally communicative. If something is unclear, he works with the player until all of their questions have been addressed. His demeanor is laid back, but he doesn't hold back during combat. Players have to be tactical, and victories feel earned. I'm only a few sessions in, but they've been highly enjoyable.
I've played a few one-shots and a mini campaign with Isaiah, outside of SPG. His world is meticulously detailed, and he works with players to develop creative solutions. Another reviewer noted "Isaiah doesn't say 'no,' he says "let's figure this out." That's accurate, and the flexibility his approach enables has made for some truly memorable moments. He's welcoming and truly loves the game. Hop on in!
Kat is excellent. Her pacing is logical and her NPCs are uniformly entertaining to interact with. The game world is thoughtfully developed. I deliberately gave my character a very basic backstory, to give Kat room to weave story threads together. Her additions have been unexpected, with genuinely emotional reveals.
Jenn doesn't hold back, in the very best ways. Players go in knowing the stakes, and are encouraged to exercise their creativity to find solutions beyond "kill all the baddies." Her characterizations are beautiful, and she laughs with us. I appreciate it when Game Masters give me the chance to fail, because it means my choices actually matter.
