Reviews I've given (4)
Despite the numerous good reviews, it definitely wasn’t worth $40, which was at least double the average price here on SP. Production value was high, but it wasn’t much different than other Foundry games I’ve played here besides the addition of a landing page. I’m mainly disappointed with the communication and pacing. Maybe he was having a bad week but Roxas wasn’t very communicative or friendly in the days before the session started. I had to really take the initiative. During the 3 hour session there were a lot of long dead silences and lulls. The atmosphere wasn’t great. Half the table did not contribute until combat forced them to talk. Pacing was more than sluggish and the table didn’t know what to do because every avenue we tried in the first two hours were dead ends with the NPCs saying, “Meet me tomorrow,” and “I’m not the right person to ask this.” I understand this was a sandbox campaign but a little guidance from the GM would’ve been nice. I could tell the rest of the players weren’t enjoying “running around town doing nothing.” When I asked if I could see anything of interest, I was told, “Everything is of interest to you.” The first skill check came 2 hours into the game and at that point I was feeling very disengaged. I couldn’t wait to end the session.
Casey is a wonderful GM. Their top-notch voice acting and soundtracks really help set the mood. I also really appreciate them letting me flavor my character with small tweaks to spells and use a homebrew variation of an official class. Last but not least, their games are inclusive and feature some LGBTQ NPCs.
