Trophy Dark: yet another game that I backed when it was crowdfunding and yet another one that I never got around to playing (or even reading). So, when I saw this oneshot adventure I was intrigued to try it, and I'm glad I did -- in fact, I would recommend anyone to keep a look out for any future sessions by Sonder. At the start of the session, Sonder explained the rules and the nature of the game so that even a beginner wouldn't feel overwhelmed, and it helped to quash those familiar pre-game jitters that I usually get when gaming with a new group. Trophy Dark is an interesting game that's big on player and GM creativity. Character descriptions (and even the lore) are stripped back to just a few poignant words that leave it open to interpretation -- think of it a bit like a Rorschach test. The collaboration between the players and Sonder on the possible outcome of rolls was my favourite part of the session, and the questions asked by Sonder about our characters helped to give them dimension. Highly recommended!
This was my first game of FATE Accelerated, and what an excellent introduction it was. Each player was free to create any of their favourite character from pop culture, and the GM had a creative idea to bring these disparate characters together for a one-shot adventure -- it's a fantastic idea that could easily inspire future one-shots, and it's a perfect fit for a system such as FATE Accelerated.
I've always wanted to play Cyberpunk -- even waaaay back to the release of Cyberpunk 2020. So, you can imagine my excitement at a chance to play my very first game of Cyberpunk, this time in the Cyberpunk Red edition. And, Choomba, this one-shot game was so sweet, it exceeded my expectations. Emmerron created an immersive atmosphere, by using effective, yet succinct descriptions, VTT visuals, and audio soundtracks to conjure up that neon, dark-future vibe. I have to give a shout-out to the other players in the group that I was playing in -- even though I was playing with strangers, we seemed to gel as a group and everyone appeared to be having as much fun as I was. And no matter what left-turns our characters came up with, Emmerron was able to react and improvise with ease -- as agile as an Arasaska assassin. As I write this review, it's now two days after the game and I'm still replaying the highlights of that session in my mind, with a grin stretched across my face. If you can get a seat at one of Emmerron's games, I would highly recommend it.
This is the second time that I've played with Golvin in an Alien rpg game, and I loved it. Golvin was eager to answer any questions, was more than capable to explain the rules with ease, and was able to adapt the story at short notice to fit a player's response. I can also say that Golvin can run a satisfying one-on-one campaign, as my second campaign was just me and the GM. Overall, it was a great introduction to the Alien rpg, and I would recommend it if you're new to the system or just curious in giving it a shot.
This is a fantastic and enjoyable way to learn a new system. I had read Blades in the Dark a few years ago, but the gameplay loop always felt elusive to me -- it may have been due to my previous rpg experience being solely D&D. So, it was an absolute delight to play it with others experienced with the system. Our GM Ray is so helpful and friendly -- I was put at ease as soon as I joined the game. I can't wait for the next session!
