My review is going to focus on what is probably the most important thing a GM can do: Handle and navigate a situation with a difficult player (not me, I swear!). Let's face it, not every group is going to be awesome, and there will sometimes be a player that, knowingly or not, strays into 'that guy' territory - hogging the spotlight in an un-fun way that can ruin other peoples' fun. We had a situation like that in a game, and Cory handled it masterfully. He didn't let it derail the play session - he kept things moving and made it as fun as possible for everyone. Then, after the session, he addressed it privately and found a solution that everyone was happy about - so those of us who wanted to can continue to play together and respect each other's investment of time and energy. There were no snap judgement, unfair solutions, or ill will. Just an honest discussion about what we all wanted from the game and how to achieve it. Good stuff! Lots of GMs are fun and good at this, but I think the biggest challenge is how to deal with situations like this without being a jerk to anyone and without ruining a session and burning bridges. Kudos to you, Cory, for how this was handled. Looking forward to next week!
Terry is great! He was responsive and helpful prior to the game to make sure everyone was on the same page, and once our first session started, be blended returning and new characters together to help a large party (7) get together quickly and seamlessly, without anyone feeling like time was wasted. Everyone had a voice - something that can difficult in a large group - and things were fun and engaging throughout. I look forward to many more sessions with him - and you should too!
