About Ollie

Hello there! My name is Ollie and I've been in the dice rolling scene for over 20 years now. I started with learning 3.5 at a young age and was taught most of my math through D&D and Magic by a family of old-school nerds. I've carried this passion with me throughout my years and have been DMing at a variety of scenes with the intent to share the gift of tabletop gaming with the people around me and to foster that creativity in others. I’ve taught home school groups how to play the game, DMed for large scale discord server campaigns of 12+ members, sat down with friends and family in the basement with snacks and dice, hosted AL at local shops and now for several years I've been DMing full-time online. I enjoy creating safe spaces for people who don't have the same accessibility to other games, or in-person shops. My campaigns, and servers are safe spaces centered around inclusive role-playing games where you can become the characters you want to be, and explore new worlds. I believe that in the past few years we've all taken to adapting to the online environment fairly well, and such I do my best to utilize tools such as turn base interactions, and other systems focused on making sure all voices are heard during those crucial moments. In the end, I want you to be comfortable and feel confident in sharing your story with others. One of my biggest obstacles as a DM is a lack of ability to picture things in my head, otherwise known as Aphantasia. I believe this has produced a unique descriptive style that allows me to focus on specific details which are crucial to setting a scene, while leaving space for you to fill in (or ask for) details. So regardless of what style of campaign you’re looking for, I promise to provide a massive, sprawling world that is reactive to your presence, choices, and weekly sessions that leave you hanging on the edge of your dice tray to see what happens next.

People are always surprised when I tell them

That I run all of my games on my steam deck! It's such a small, powerful machine that isn't even on many people's radar, much less imagining it plugged into a dock station, monitor, mouse/keyboard, and running Roll20.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing Magic the Gathering with my friends and family. Most specifically the 100 card Variant known as Commander (or EDH). I thoroughly enjoy the deck-building process and having a space to further present my style and creativity while also seeing other people around me represented in their cards.

How Ollie runs games

As your DM, I try to provide the best experience to my players by giving them a living, breathing world that reacts to their choices, characters, and words. NPC don't wait in set locations, staring blankly at the sun until you arrive, but instead have lives and a story to share same as you. While a campaign will never be derailed due by this, you may find that as your days progress the events of the world do shift around you. I personally love the Roleplaying side of the game as a player. I also love to engage players with and in roleplay throughout sessions that I lead. I find this allows myself and the players to truly shape the world around them and illustrate a gaming experience that is fun and memorable for all. Furthermore I enjoy a collaborative world-building experience, allowing my players freedom to make adjustments to things that might support their character more. For example; if you the only Drow in the party, you may get to decide how rare they are and details about their culture! I encourage all players to make things yours and accept most homebrew to allow your creativity to shine. I am happy to help with any part of the character creation process to best facilitate that as well. You'll never have to be in the driving seat of my games, but you and your party will pick the places we stop, the radio station and even give directions. You'll love the extras I put into my games! I am great at different voices, I truly enjoy breathing life into characters this way. My combat style is varied and I am open to the wants of the party while ensuring that all players styles are recognized and voices are heard. I work to ensure that no matter what style of game you are looking for, you'll find engagement within each session, ranging from combat, puzzles, tense exploration, political plots, conversational challenges, and so much more.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Jordan Peel, Eli Roth, David Lynch?

Rules are...

Some homebrew rules you might see featured in my games are: ~ Allowing players to keep a "cache" of inspiration rolls, which can be used to re-roll ANY dice they roll, equal to their prof modifier. ~ Using your action to cast a 1st level spell allows you to cast a cantrip as a bonus action.

When it comes to voices

Honestly I try my best, but my main focus in applying mannerism or inflection to make characters unique. When it comes to my players, I don't mind at all if you've got fun (or well acted) accents, as long as you're willing to be engaged and try to breath life into your character.

Ollie 's ideal table

My ideal table includes players who are understanding that every person beside them is also looking for a safe, comfortable space to play this beautiful game. They are engaged in the campaign, asking questions and throwing out their own ideas into the moment, they don't get offended when (in character) drama or conflict comes up, and above all they understand that they're always welcome to talk to me as a DM. These players know that their characters have to work together to resolve the campaign, they are willing to roleplay and ask themselves how their characters might feel about the situation at hand.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Gothic, cosmic horror adventures that leave you sitting back in your seat at the end of the session pushing together puzzle pieces, scribbling lore drops, making connections amongst characters and nps, and trying to make it out of there alive!

I think it's a red flag when players...

Don't engage the other party members (or myself!) in their character creation process, they don't ask about the current story hooks or status of the campaign, and generally just come loaded with a fully prepped character that is isolated of the theme, or vibe of the campaign.

I think min/maxing...

A wonderful path towards character building! There are so many different styles of creating a character, from maximizing your combat capabilities, following a unique build you saw online, being the perfect investigator, a bogwitch, a sentient sword, silver-tongued, or whatever else! We love them all
