About me

AKA AJ Black across the interwebs, I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember. I've done pretty much any kind of gaming and roleplaying, from the traditional videogames (and tabletops) to the text RP to board games to card games to cosplay- once I even joined a LARP! I have way too many interests and way too many fandoms to list here, but some of the most prominent are pro wrestling (Yes, I know it's "fake". No, I don't care), music (Bad Omens and Black Veil Brides remain my favorites), and reading (I will always be a Darren Shan kid. The Demonata series are still some of my favorite books to read). You'll find out pretty quickly that I'm an open book, and if you spend enough time around me you'll pick up my huge list of things to do. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, as I'd only picked up Avatar recently and only knew the rules as I understood them. I didn't know how things would play out- so I was nervous starting a new game where I wasn't DMing. Turns out there was absolutely NOTHING to worry about! Yukari is an incredible DM that puts so much thought and care into her games without once making you feel forced into choosing certain decisions. First of all, things started off incredible behind the scenes as I was able to play a completely new character, written in a way that allowed me to learn things WHILE my character learned (he had amnesia). Nothing ever felt forced or broke immersion, I was gasping right along with everyone else when certain plot points were revealed. Gameplay was fun and not too fast-paced and the roleplay opportunities were fun and carried the story through. Yukari knew all the rules and was able to explain things to me in a way that I understood, and she is able to balance everyone's various stories and weave them together in a way that's fun and made sense, without anyone getting trampled or shut down- in her game, you will have your own chance to shine. Pure and simple, I had a blast and would absolutely play other games with her Addendum: I have since joined another game of hers, this one a...sister campaign, I think is the best word for it, and in a word- it's amazing. Yukari makes things easy, and I get excited when I log in (now twice a week) to see what stories that evening holds for me. Not to say that everything is easy for our little party- the drama is plenty, but told very well with the maps and visuals to back everything up and make it clear- there's no guessing or figuring out what's what. If there's any question about rules or trying to do something, Yukari is on it and will help you through anything you may need to know. Addendum 2: The character from the new game is now part of the original game, which is something that has admittedly been rare for me. I expressed that my new character has clicked with me far more than my first one did, and instead of making me struggle, Yukari offered a chance for me to play the character in both campaigns, since they were connected! Upon the time for the swap in-game, I was excited to see how it happened, and I wasn't disappointed at all! Everything made sense, kept the immersion, and progressed the story in a tangible way. All in all, I would absolutely play another one of Yukari's games, and you should too!

Alex is incredibly creative and can make almost any idea work into a story- and when they can’t, they’re very clear on exactly why, what’s wrong, and alternative paths that can be taken. No matter what the game is, Alex absolutely gives their all to everything and it’s clear in the quality of the character work and the game layout. The twists, too- sometimes you think you’re on a path to a certain result and then BAM! And yet- when you look back, the signs were clearly there, Alex is just good at hiding them. The play by post format is good too, because you’re never ever rushed to do anything, and there’s absolutely no pressure the way there would be with a live game! If you’re looking for something chill that also has amazing quality, look no further than Alex!

Butch was recently part of the GM Webinars, where she graciously took the time to offer tips and tricks to help other GMs get better at their craft. That was not something she *had* to do, but did it anyway, and that's something incredible. With that out of the way, Butch was also very prepared and informative during the session, answering all questions in a way that was easy to digest and made sense. The powerpoint was done well, too, with an easy-to-follow format that allowed everyone to be able to read at their own pace, and examples after every slide to drive certain points home (Especially laying out how consequences play out, both good and bad). This was a fantastic session that I would recommend to anyone looking to up their game and get a different viewpoint.

I would highly recommend this webinar if you're thinking about running any Play-By-Post games

Salman was recently part of the GM Webinars, where he graciously took his time to offer tips and tricks to help other GMs get better at their craft. That was not something he *had* to do, but did it anyway, and that's something incredible. With that out of the way, Salman was also very prepared and informative during the session, answering all questions in a way that was easy to digest and made sense. He also encouraged everyone to get out of their comfort zone by creating a safe space for us to practice and learn the skills he was teaching. He was patient with everyone as we went through things, but he was completely prepared for everything and he had visual aids all set up and ready, too. I would highly recommend taking one of his webinars if he does it again!
