I was in ChickyBisky's Season of Ghosts game for it's duration. It was an amazing time with a lot of the players being awesome to play with too! While not everyone knew the rules, it was a very welcoming environment and allowed for creativity for all involved! We began to get comfortable around each other's style and began weaving a good story. I think we made it to about book 2 or at least over half-way through book 1. Sadly Chicky's work schedule changed and we had to call it, but I look forward to the next game I get to play with her. It was a really good time and I anticipate it will be again someday!
Suann is a godsend of a GM. We just wrapped our campaign and had a wonderful conclusion to a story we have been weaving for a long time now. Every session was filled with fantastic visuals, enrapturing audio, custom maps, custom items, and well-thought-out NPCs whom you wanted to connect with more! Almost every player we started with was present at the end of the game, and those that dropped were for actual solid reasons. 1 stayed in the Discord to see the story to the end, even if they weren't able to play weekly anymore. By the end of the campaign, I had notes for almost every session. I rarely got distracted by shinies around the office/never had that feeling of downturn where you wondered why you joined this game or when it was going to end. The end of this came too soon! It was a satisfying end for everyone, and every player had a complete backstory conclusion! I enjoyed this game so much that we have already taken our current group minus one and joined her next campaign!! I can't give enough praise to Suann for her kindness and attentiveness to her players. I hope to play in many, many, many more games with her over the years~!!
Edit: Okay, so I am doing an end-of-campaign update and leaving my original one below to show what it was and what it morphed into: Pros: • Narrative Text "cutscenes" which show dialog from the present scene, either from a narrator perspective or from a villain. • Well-thought-out transitions for the campaign chapters to the tabletop scenes. • You can definitely tell there has been some love and attention put into his games! Cons: • So, in my original review, I mentioned that it felt like a video game and blended into Tabletop. Well... It turns out that after 50+ sessions of this, it gets very tiring and promotes some bad habits for literally every game you will play with any other GM. • Applying ALL the damage, healing, and buffs makes players extremely lazy. In any other game, you'll be responsible for this on your own. No GM I have ever played with doesn't expect you to do this on your own. • The cutscenes are a bit of a double-edged sword. They are very immersive and help you focus on the scene, but they remove most of the player RP from some of the scenes. You have to sit and wait for the scene to complete before doing anything else. • At the very beginning, the tone was set to be a down-to-earth game with a focus on traditional Fantasy tropes. Like most D&D Movies would be or a fantasy setting series. Lord of the Rings, Goblin Slayer, Overlord, Frieren, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, or Vox Machina. However, by the end of it, a few players had rotated out and new ones rotated in. The tone has shifted to that of (No offense to this Anime, I love it!! However, this was not the agreed tone, nor was anyone asked about the switch); Gintama. You'd be in the Underdark fighting for your life against Drow one moment and then on a spaceship fighting robots with cryo guns and bombs, traversing dinosaur-infested Jungles, to a realm of acid with land so toxic you can't even walk on it without debuffs or damage. • Probably the most bothersome one to me was the harsh shift from fair combat with tactics to gimmicks. For the last FOUR sessions, we have fought enemies at level 15 who could go Mythical Invisibility, with no way to see through it. No see invisibility, True Sight does nothing, and the enemy used this ability as a triggerless tactic, so you can't even Reactice Strike/Attack of Opportunity them to stop it. Then he spends the next 4 hours playing hide and seek with you. So, overall if you find yourself a Meme Gamer (or as I call them, a "something you read in a 4chan Greentext thread") where you like to play as Kermit the Frog the Barbarian, Vincent from Final Fantasy 7 (with no changes to your story or art) guns and all, or enjoy playing with people who do the following: • Keeps cracking memes, TikTok quotes, or distracts from the game every 3 minutes. • Runs to every chest and corpse first to loot the good stuff. • Interrupts quieter players. • Physically at the table, mentally AFK. Then you will find this table to be quite enjoyable. The tone is definitely more of a light-hearted one, where nothing is too serious, the scenes are random, and overall, the GM puts a lot of work into his scenes. So, mostly people looking to transition from D&D 5e to PF2e would find the automation level of gameplay to be a huge boon, and can learn the rules as they go, but also keep the same level of "My bard seduces the Dragon levels of gameplay" you'll find in most 5e games. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review: I wish I could choose more tags! Gaming with Mike has been the most unique experience I’ve ever had in any tabletop system or game! His games are comprehensive and complete! You will have an amazing time and feel like a perfect blend of a Video Game and a Tabletop Session! Think the Baldur’s Gate 3 of Tabletop (I know, I know. BG3 is a Video Game version of Tabletop. However, suspend your disbelief for a moment and consider the concept) where you have flowing cut scenes and RP, the ability to play your character as down to earth as you want and combat that makes you feel accomplished! I will say I wish there was less of GM applying damage, effects, healing, and more player focus on that part. Cause it does almost feel a little too video game like, but I don’t blame him. The number of players I play with who can’t figure out Foundry or even Roll20 is staggering. Like no concept of wanting to learn either. So, skipping the incompetent players mucking it up adds for a smoother gaming experience! Overall 9/10 and I wish I had more games with him!!
I have played with Muerte on and off for the last 4 years! Since the "before times". When COVID hit I really got into the Pathfinder Society Scene. With that came a slew of good, bad, and GREAT GMs. Among the greats was consistently MUERTE. I would seek out his games and recommend him to others. Then as COVID slowed and people returned to their nests... I mean LGS, the PFS really dried up. Like in the golden days it was 20+ pages where by page 12 you barely got into 3 weeks out. Where now it's page 10 is 6+ months later. Regardless, when I saw Muerte was runnning on SPG, I wanted to play in his games again, but whether it was timing or money at the time or having children lol. It never lined up, UNTIL NOW. We ran through a Level 20 Battle Arena and it was amazing. I had forgotten the chaos of a level 20 battle and Meurte killed it. So much fun, we even had a rules commentator in the party who seemed to be ready to fight and Muerte just rolled with it as usual. He kept his cool and stuck to the rules and his guns. Everyone walked away happy and ready for more. Will definitely be in a Muerte game again and someday a Campaign!
Beardy is a fantastic GM for both new and existing players. His dedication to teaching the game's nuances is truly commendable. He patiently guides us through each aspect, taking the time to explain even the most complex mechanics in a way that is easy to grasp. His clear instructions help us navigate the rules effortlessly, allowing us to focus on the immersive world he has crafted for us. One of the highlights of Beardy's games is the use of music and soundscapes. The carefully selected tracks and ambient sounds bring the adventure to life, enveloping us in a rich tapestry of atmosphere. It's remarkable how much these auditory elements enhance the storytelling and make the world feel more vibrant and real. Beyond his exceptional skills as a GM, Beardy shines in creating a safe and inclusive gaming space. His commitment to making everyone feel valued and respected ensures that each player's voice is heard and their contributions matter. The rule of cool sometimes comes into play, allowing for epic and memorable moments that leave us in awe, but he keeps things grounded 95% of the time. Beardy's storytelling prowess is simply extraordinary. He weaves a captivating narrative, keeping us on the edge of our seats with every twist and turn. His ability to paint vivid pictures with words is unmatched, immersing us in a world of adventure and intrigue. Each session with Beardy feels like stepping into a living, breathing novel, and I am eagerly looking forward to the next chapter in our Rise of the Runelords saga.
