If you're looking for a great GM to host play-by-posts, Last is the GM you're looking for! Games take place in Discord channels which Last sets up (and mods) well and then she posts on a daily basis to give you a great dose of D&D every day! She does a great job of not only including player's described backstory but also being very lenient on letting players drive the story. I've been playing for months now and it feels like the other players and I are writing an epic story with Last providing the Narrator point of view. Great stuff, would totally recommend!
Avi is awesome! We’re over a dozen sessions into the two-part Hoard of the Dragon Queen campaign and the party is having a blast! Avi does a great job including character backstories into the story if players give him things to work with. He will not hold back if players continue to go into combat, which can lead to some well-deserved, challenging encounters. I don’t think there’s been anything cool we’ve wanted to do so far that Avi has shot down, and he’s been on board with all of our shenanigans so far! Avi does a great job of describing anything theater-of-the-mind. In my prior DM experiences, it can somehow be hard to understand what’s actually going on, but Avi does a great job with both descriptions and voices. Avi is great for both beginners and veterans - For both D&D and for the tools he uses. I’m a roll20 noob but he’s been great at helping with any issues we have. He even sets up special macros as needed to make our lives easier. If you’ve gotten this far, stop reading now and just book the session! You’re not going to regret it! See you in the discord!
Not only are Cara’s DM’ing skills awesome, but the system as well as story for the Djinn’s Labyrinth based on the Magi / Metal Vessels series, create some very unique one-shots. My favorite aspect is the ability for characters to progress even through one-shots. It has two benefits: If you want the option of rotating in different characters each game, you can as normal with one-shots, but if you really enjoy a character, you can continue to grow them like in a longer campaign! If you get a chance to book one of Cara’s Djinn Labyrinth one-shots, you should jump at the chance!
Dudley's Streets of Sharn one-shots are amazing and like nothing I have played before! I've never been a big Theater of the Mind player, but Dudley describes the scene, characters, and atmospheres so well, it makes me feel like I'm truly there. His rules of cool that focuses less on being technically correct and more on having fun makes sure Players have a great few hours. His most unique aspect to me is the Deck of Many Things aspect. At the beginning of the game, each player draw a card that significantly impacts the story. He then very amazingly combines all of the elements of the cards effects into the game right there on the spot. Seriously, if you see a Streets of Sharn spot open, book it and prepare for an awesome one-shot! You won't regret it!
Playing with the Doctor at the helm was awesome! I enjoyed the smaller party-size and longer one-shot length to give the chance to explore the characters a bit as well as have multiple combat sessions. His DM style was great! From his very fun house rules, to the great character voices and comedic back-and-forths between PC and NPCs, and then even the dice camera, everything worked well together. If you have a chance to get into his one-shots, jump! It’ll be a game you don’t forget!
