About the adventure

You are a part of roughnecks surviving on the outer rim evading the Empire and scratching out a living. You are bounty hunters, nomads, space cowboys, or even bucket heads. The outer rim is a tough place, but you and your crew manage to survive somehow. After order 66 most Jedi have been hunted down and the galaxy has come under the control of the empire. Only the brave or stupid choose to live in the outer rim. Which you are remains to be seen. There are rumors of a group of rebels forming, but who would be stupid enough to fight the empire? Inspired by the first Star wars(A New Hope), Mandalorian, Firefly and Rogue One this game is about the other guys and how they fit in in the galaxy far far away.

About me

Hi I'm Paul Parnell the Creative Director of the RPG Empire. I'm a Creator, Writer, DM, and Player making roleplaying content for your inspiration and entertainment. I love RPGs and have a background in screenwriting, acting, game creation and I've been playing RPGs for more than 20 years. I even had Dave Arneson one of the creators of DnD, as my collage professor and had the opportunity to play a Dungeons and Dragons game DMed by him. :O Some shows I've created: Dust World RPG Podcast: An anime-inspired post-apocalyptic sci-fi western actual play RPG podcast about a group of flawed individuals, the Boys, that are trying to stop Red Earth a mad dictatorship from taking over what's left of this rock. Found anywhere you can listen to podcasts. https://dust-world-rpg-podcast.captivate.fm/ Strangers in the Pines: Strangers in the Pines is an actual play roleplaying podcast using the monster of the week rules, inspired by things like Gravity Falls, Stranger Things, and Twin Peaks. There is a town called Pine Forge nestled in the Blackwood national park in Northeast Oregon, USA. It seems small and quaint at first but if you spend enough time there and keep your eyes open you’ll realize something strange is brewing under the surface and in the pines that surround the town. Follow the exploits of 4 unusual high school students, Lucas Santiago a mutated meat monster, Dotty Luzhkov an earthy crunch girl blessed by the forest, Danny Fields a spooky kid with psychic powers and Chad Woodmore the 7th the heir to Woodmore Industries and a real jerk, as they try to unravel the mysteries of Pine Forge and the Strangers in the Pines. Paul is a 10/10 keeper! I had been playing MotW here and there, but I learned so much more about the game within this one session! Fun premise and great pacing too!

I played a Monster of the Week game run by Paul and had a blast! He is super knowledgeable about the whole system, and breaks it down easily for new and old players alike. The story that he weaves is vivid, colorful and exciting, with NPCs that are fun and unique. There was never a dull moment through the session, and I barely even noticed how fast the time flew by. I’m looking forward to jumping into more of Paul’s games. Don’t hesitate to book him even if you haven’t tried this system before!

I've been playing in the playtest of Paul's Dust World PBtA ttrpg and the sessions I've joined have been entertaining, satisfying, and not infrequently funny. Paul isn't too worried when things go off track (which happens a lot in PBtA games). He has story ready for us wherever we might go, including back to the main plot. I'll definitely throw dice with this GM in the future.

Paul has always made a point of valuing power in roleplaying, allowing players to create the builds and characters that heighten the kinetic energy of the campaigns the most. His worlds always carry a sense of play, and even at their darkest still allows for cheeky fun. I've watched him have to roll with entire long extended sequences made up by the players and been a great sport about it, and that's the sign of a GM you can trust, someone who won't just hem you in and always values the twist in plots. A great guy and a fun dude.

How Paul Parnell, DM of the Dust World Podcast from The RPG Empire creates a safe table

This is a a hack of several PbtA games(Apocalypse World). It is a narrative focused game that uses 2d6 to resolve random elements. It is very easy to play and really creates interesting dramatic moments and awesome interactions. The players will pick a playbook working with the Keeper(DM) A session looks like 5-8 mins of getting into it and saying hellos. Then it's off exploring the galaxy. The gameplay is very simple with only 8-10 basic moves and you playbook moves getting into play is easy and fast paced.
