About Zette

Looking to dive in for the first time? Or maybe you want a one of a kind session in a passion project world? Or if you're interested in tactical snappy combat then you should keep reading. Hi, I'm Zette, pleased to meet you. I cut my teeth like many a DM on Matt Colvile's 'Running the Game' series in 2017. Ever since that day I finally convinced some of my friends to play I've been the man behind the table for at least one session a month if not more. It wasn't long after starting my first campaign (which had six players and met weekly! CRAZY!) that I discovered I wanted more than what Hoard of the Dragon Queen was offering me. So I started writing my own story loosely based on the module and it was... rough. Thankfully I've had years of practice since and my writing has certainly improved. Tabletop RPGs have become a staple creative outlet for me in my life, an awesome chance to blend both my background in the arts and in technology. Speaking of, around 2019 I switched to entirely virtual. I had met many amazing players since I had started from all sorts of different places and so it only made sense to transition to the one venue that could support us all: the internet. We tooled around with several VTTs before discovering an awesome combination of D&D Beyond and Foundry VTT. As the tools and my DM'ing have continued to improve I have only grown in my love for the game and my desire to share my work with more players.

I got started GMing...

Because I wanted to try it and no one else would. I kept GMing because it's awesome to weave an awesome experience for my friends.

People are always surprised when I tell them

I'm a pastor (in training) and a technician by day, with tabletop roleplaying games as a side gig.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing games with Discord in my friends! Lately those games are; Deadlock, Fellowship, WoW, and Civilization VII.

How Zette runs games

The story crafting and fantasy are the primary drivers behind why I DM, you can expect originally written stories and NPCs along with compelling narratives and a homebrewed world. On top of that, I leverage the best tools available in Forge Steel/D&D Beyond combined with Foundry VTT. You can expect tough battles, liberal loot, and compelling role playing narratives.

Zette's ideal table

My ideal table contains a range of players that are collaborative and jointly competitive. Collaborative because some players are here for combat and others for roleplaying, almost everyone prefers one over the other even changing week to week. Even if we're in the mode of your preference, you might not be the one speaking. For these reasons it's super awesome when the players are not just happy to wait but actively working to help others achieve their goals for the table. Jointly competitive because tabletop games are challenges meant to be overcome and they're awesome when everyone works together. It takes a spirit of invested competition to be searching for the best angles for your Wall of Fire or guessing the motivations of the Marquis of The Great Bridge. It takes an extra commitment to the team to not turn this competitive spirit on your other players which saps the fun for everyone but the victor.

I think min/maxing...

Is the right thing to do, almost always! I'll be working the system to challenge you, so bring it!

My table is not the place for...

Rolling dice against other players or playing the lone Rogue.
