About me

Hi there, you can call me Woland. I've been playing tabletop RPGs for almost two decades now, and for a large chunk of that time I have also enjoyed Play-by-Post, asynchronous campaigns. I will be offering those here on SPG. From World of Darkness and Chronicles of Darkness to classic D&D and beyond, I have ran (or helped to run) such games for groups of varying sizes: from small intimate experiences of just 2 or 3 people to communities numbering in the dozens. I love the thoughtful, cerebral side of text gaming that frees us from the constrains of schedule and allows us to develop great writing skills and weave fantastic, shared narratives. At the same time, I work to make the experience as dynamic as possible, without sacrificing availability. I would love to pull you along on this journey, whether you are a veteran or just someone who is curious to try a new style of gaming!

GM Style

My personal style relies on three pillars: communication with players, creating an immersive world and impactful choices. I communicate with my players by being open in my game ads, and welcoming their questions prior to enlisting. I talk about expectations, help the group create characters, set boundaries and otherwise cooperate to bring an enjoyable experience. And after the game, I am always open to feedback. The world is being immersive when its elements are not just interesting and colourful by themselves, but also form a greater cohesive whole. Quirks and evocative descriptions are just part of it, you can also expect interconnected factions vying for influence, greater background events to give everything context and the makeup of it all changing as the narrative unfolds. But that immersive world wouldn't be much good if you couldn't influence it, and that's where impactful choices come in. A choice is impactful when it concerns the characters directly and when it alters the course of events within the framework of our shared story. If you want an example, think about that one scene in the desert from "Seven", the one when Brad Pitt's character puts a gun to the head of a serial killer, played by Kevin Spacey. He can either sacrifice his principles and career, or avenge his wife and remove a monster from the world. That's the kind of thing I want to do. To me, it's all about how the characters change, and how they change the world around them.
