About Dakota
Heya! I'm Dakota! I've been running D&D games for 6 years! I'm passionate about creating worlds and stories for players to interact with, play in, and influence. I have a background in game development and design and my top priority is to make the game I run fun for my players! I try to make my games personal. I like to tailor my campaigns to the group I play with to give players a personalized experience. I try my best to include player backstories in some way, however small. I love to give each player a chance to shine and make sure everyone is included in the story. Even when I run a pre-written adventure, I always put my own spins and changes in it!

I got started GMing...
In middle school. My friend introduced me to D&D 5e and I immediately latched onto the DM role. I'm someone who really likes crafting worlds and experiences so it called to me!
My favorite shows/movies are
- FMA: Brotherhood - Avatar: The Last Airbender - Sinners - Adventure Time - Scott Pilgrim VS The World - Jojo's Bizzare Adventure I really like media that has a combination of deep characters, a unique world and/or plot, stunning visuals/cinematography, and a good bit of humor.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Developing them! I started making video games when I was 11 and have been in love with it ever since. My favorite thing is telling stories through games: be them video or tabletop :)
How Dakota runs games
I love everything about TTRPGs! I love action scenes with tactical combat. I love exploring forgotten ruins and uncovering lore. I love roleplaying characters to interact with my players. Most of all, I LOVE creating a story with my players. From the small stories we make during combat, to the large overarching narratives with character arcs. My absolute favorite part of TTRPGs is writing stories with my players.

I prep by
pacing around, thinking of ideas! Seriously. I spend so much time just pacing and thinking (It's the ADHD, I think). I tend to, after a session of doing that, compile my thoughts in a bit of a document and then get to the gritty details of stat blocks and sketching the maps.
My games focus on...
stories, characters, and the world they take place in. To me, the collaborative storytelling is the best part of TTRPGs. This doesn't mean I neglect the mechanics or combat, however, as I think those things are perfect methods and driving forces to tell those stories!
Rules are...
designed to enhance the fun! If there were no rules in the game, it would be a bit boring since there'd be no challenge! I think it's really fun to work within the rules as a creative constraint to make something (be it a character or a story)!

I love it when a player
ties world lore and/or campaign themes into their character and backstory. This makes the story we tell together so much more cohesive and gets me super excited to include your backstory details into the plot.
