About Aaron The Twilight GM
Hi there, I’m Aaron! I’ve been a GM for 5 years, running homebrew campaigns and one-shots, drawing from many sources and inspirations to create unique, player-driven worlds. I love collaborative storytelling, and there is no better feeling than putting players in a complicated situation to be surprised and delighted by their creativity! I may be a teacher, instructional designer, and accessibility advocate by day, but I am a nerd all the time. When I’m not spending time with my family and dog, Cosmo, I’m building worlds, playing TTRPGs and video games, and reading comics. Whether you are new or a veteran of TTRPGS, my table is a safe, accessible space for players of all walks of life. Let's tell some awesome stories together!

I got started GMing...
Because I wanted to tell a story with my friends. Inspired by my favorite shows and comics, I built a campaign frame for my friends and used their character backstories to flesh it out. We've been playing that same campaign for over three years now!
My favorite books are
Marvel comics (that counts, right?). I prefer the supernatural side of comics like Moon Knight, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, etc. They serve as great inspiration for stories and characters in addition to being fun reads.
When I'm not running games I'm...
playing video games, reading comics, creating D&D characters, and playing with my puppy, Cosmo (named after Cosmo the Spacedog).
How Aaron The Twilight GM runs games
My games are player- and character-driven, often featuring horror/supernatural elements, but in a world with lovable NPCs, fantastical locations and setpieces, and silly banter. Heavily inspired by my favorite video games and comic books, my goal is for your character to feel like a superhero, or anti-hero, in a magical, fantasy setting. Gameplay includes a healthy mix of combat, RP, and exploration. I love RP and encourage my players to get into character. I'll even reward players for RP with inspiration. Encounters will range from traditional combat and battle with legendary enemies to social encounters, mysteries, heists, monster hunts, and more. I always cater my games to my players, so whatever elements the party enjoys the most, that’s what we’ll focus on! One of my favorite things is when players think outside the box. Want to try something? I lean towards rule-of-cool, so think creatively, and when possible, we’ll bend the rules together All content in my games is human-created, with no generative AI on my end. What I don’t create or write myself comes from a source created by a real person who was paid for their work/whose resource was purchased by me.

I deal with rules issues by...
By using them as teachable moments - for the player or for me. Sometimes I'm wrong about a rule and I'm happy to learn from my mistakes. If the player has an issue with a rule, I will hear them out and even if I rule against them, I will look for alternatives to help them achieve their general goal
If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Ryan Coogler or Sam Raimi
I prep by
Writing recaps for myself and my players, rereading my GM planning document(s), and building/reviewing maps and tokens. This prep also helps me get a handle on the current pacing and making sure that sessions are balanced for combat/RP and every player gets equal share of the spotlight.
Aaron The Twilight GM's ideal table
My ideal table is centered on respect for everyone and collaboration in storytelling. I love characters with backstories and goals, so I take a lot of time learning about the players' characters and what the player wants out of their game. I craft NPCs and quests to tie directly to the PCs and building the world together and driving the story to focus on each PC/player. I strive for a fun but spooky vibe with images, maps, and music to set the atmosphere. Everyone gets the spotlight at this table, so RP and creative solutions are rewarded with inspiration.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Marvel comics (particularly the supernatural/magic characters), Diablo, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Blood, the X-Files
I love it when a player
Gets creative. The most fun is a player creatively using that random item I gave them from three sessions ago! Second is when players speculate about the plot and come up with theories about what is going on. Whether they are right or wrong, the speculation tells me that the players are invested
I think it's a red flag when players...
Tell other players how to play their character. Helping others at the table can be great but I won't allow one player to take away another player's agency or make them feel bad for choices on their character sheet.
