About Tom E
After being desperate to play TTRPG's for a while but unable to find someone to host, I decided to shoulder that responsibility myself and haven't looked back! I've GM'd 5th edition D&D for 7 years now, juggling multiple groups and ensuring freedom for my players through adaptability. I'm able to accommodate different play-styles and run both bespoke experiences or officially released modules. Fundamental to the way I run games is the idea that the players are here to have fun, and rules can be bent and events twisted to accommodate the party's ideas, no matter how outlandish!

I became a GM because
I love setting things up and letting players run away with the ball, often in vastly different directions to anything i could have predicted!
My favorite books are
Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson) The Princess Bride (William Goldman) The Colour of Magic (Terry Prathchett)
When I'm not running games I'm...
Reading, learning to skate(board), or teaching
How Tom E runs games
I am happy to accommodate the playstyles and interests of all members of a party. If someone enjoys roleplay I will provide opportunities for character development and interaction with rich NPC's, if someone enjoys heart-pounding encounters I will ensure the stakes are raised, if someone enjoys their status as "The Wildcard" I will ensure there are opportunities for plans as ridiculous as you can devise! The rules are there to advise, and I'm not afraid to bend those rules to ensure individuals can express themselves through their character's actions. Whether you are looking for a completely bespoke campaign or published modules, I will ensure there is the freedom for you to carve your own path through a world!

I deal with rules issues by...
open discussion and communal decision! This is a collaborative effort and if there are disputes they should be solved collaboratively where appropriate!
Rules are...
guides... I find they don't always account for everything, and are sometimes best when they can be flexible. The rules are framework within which to build a story.
Tom E's ideal table
Relaxed and fun. I encourage everyone to engage with the session in their own way, some people may want to do voices and heavily role play whereas others may not. I like to facilitate all players and never pressure anyone to engage in a way in which they are not entirely comfortable.

I think metagaming...
has it's place. If players want to discuss options outside of character during a fight then why shouldn't they be allowed to strategise! However, if someone has explicit knowledge of a setting or campaign that theirs or other characters would not know, I expect players to maintain the surprise!
I think min/maxing...
is generally unnecessary! While sometimes encounters will be challenging, those encounters will also be fair and won't require perfect builds!
