About Tyler

Hello Everyone! My name is Tyler and I am a huge fan of RPGs, both tabletop and video games. I've been playing and GMing TTRPGs for 10 years now. I've played and GM for a wide variety of systems including D&D 5e, Mass Effect 5e, Pokémon Tabletop Adventures, OVA, Mutants and Masterminds, Fallout: Vaults and Deathclaws, Naruto and more! I draw a lot of inspiration from games like Mass Effect, Fallout: New Vegas, The Witcher, and countless others. I tend to run my games with an emphasis on deep narrative and engaging roleplay. I often run mysteries with webs that run wide and connect in many unexpected ways. Taking from my theater experience I also give my NPCs distinguished voices to further add to the flavor and life into my characters and world (Hope you enjoy accents as much as I do). Tactical combat is also a focus for me, crafting challenges beyond high CR and more monsters is important to me. Environmental hazards or additional objectives to make combat feel more dynamic is a must for me. Hopefully my interests and GMing values resonate with, all I have left for you is one final question. How do you want to do this?

I became a GM because

I wanted to be able to fuse my love for gaming, writing, and performing all in one place

My favorite shows/movies are

My favorite show is Mr. Robot, with Daredevil's Netflix series, and Bladerunner 2049 being some of my other favorites.

My favorite system of all Time is

For me it is probably Star Wars 5e. Although it is a fan made system. It is made with so much love and care and has so many player options that is easy for player to realize their concept no matter how outlandish it may be

How Tyler runs games

I draw inspirations from many sources to craft my writing and GM Style. Games like Mass Effect, Fallout, and Baldur's Gate 3 really taught me to invest in rich storytelling, and involving the players in every aspect. Every story I tell I'm always trying to weave in elements from character backstories to further engage players and increase the depth of whatever the moment calls. In homebrew settings I take care in building out the lore and breathing life into the world so that the games feels more than just a single encounter to be discarded immediately afterwards. Tactically enticing gameplay is also very important to me, and it is so much more than throwing higher and higher cr monsters at my players. From terrain hazards to additional objectives or targets to protect, I am always searching for ways to add layers to an encounter beyond attack rolls and forcing saving throws.

I deal with rules issues by...

Assuming there isn't a clear ruling in any sourcebook, I leave it to a player vote, with myself as a tie breaker. Reminder that any rule that benefits a player can be used to benefit the enemy😈

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

M. Night Shyamalan. I often take direct inspiration from his creative and experimental writing style, particularly from Unbreakable

I prep by

Building out a sandbox and digging out drenches for exploring deeper plots and events

Tyler's ideal table

Players who love engaging with story actively will fit right in at my table. I try to weave intricate webs of connecting plot lines, and so a player who likes to tug will find themselves pulling in a lot of intresting developments for themselves and other characters. Players who prefer tactical combat will also fit right in as I put in effort to make combat be as dynamic and rewarding as possible.

I love it when a player

Asks questions I never prepared for. At first it can be a bit of a panic trying to a figure out the answer, but it allows me the shape the world around player agency and that things that intrest them the most.

I think metagaming...

Characters acting on knowledge they wouldn't know. It is important to seperate player knowledge with character knowledge so we can tell a narrative based in the world, and not based on looking up statblocks to get answers to the test

My perfect party mix is

A diverse party with different strengths and weaknesses. I design my encounters with variety in mind, with enemies that can target weakness but also be countered by the players strenghts if played correctly.
