About Thrythlind

A former EFL teacher who has taught in both Japan and Korea, I have done some self-publishing and freelance game development. I lean towards games like Monster of the Week, Fate, Scion, and City of Mist. I am the co-author for Monster of the Week Supplements: Hunter's Journal, Slayer's Survival Kit, and Mystic Marginalia. (Thryth and Luke are acceptable forms of address) You can find some of my stuff in Monster of the Week's Tome of Mysteries and the Double Spiral War Saga RPG for both Savage Worlds and Traveller (I did the lore write up for both and designed some of the NPCs for Savage Worlds). For my self-published works, look into Divine Blood or my DrivethruRPG store: Thrythlind Books and Games.

I ran my first game...

The first game I ever ran was the haunted house starter scenario for Chill 2nd edition in the early 90s about two years into high school.

How Thrythlind runs games

I prefer to take a narrative style and approach the rules loosely with an aim for enjoyment over adherence to the rules. Still, rolling dice is fun, so expect me to call for some checks. I may record sessions for review in my own time because I have found that on-the-moment note-taking breaks game flow in a way I don't feel comfortable allowing in a professional capacity. Permission will be asked in advance. If players are not comfortable, the recording won't happen.

My favorite trope is...

My favorite trope is the idea some supernatural creatures are just... people. Characters like Enid Sinclair from Wednesday. If it can think, it can choose.

Rules are...

For the most part rules keep things structured and behaving in a stable manner, but rules do not cover every situation and it is the GM's responsibility to judge whether a situation calls for bending the official rules or establishing a house rule.

Thrythlind's ideal table

I aim to take things seriously enough that time is not wasted but overall I am for a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you're into TV series like Grimm, Wednesday, or Sanctuary, you'll fit in perfectly well. I like characters who aren't humans and humans whose training puts them on level with the supernatural. And I enjoy a bit of slice-of-life on the side of the main plot.

I think it's a red flag when players...

I consider it a red flag if a person tries to wave off an offense by claiming "it's just a joke". It may have been a joke when you thought of it, but it obviously wasn't a joke to someone else. Admit the misstep happened, apologize and move on.

My table is not the place for...

Hate speech of any type will not be tolerated.
