About WhimsyWizard
Hello! My name is Whimsy Wizard, A.K.A Nolan! I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition for roughly 6 years now and have been a Game Master for 3 years. I find immense fulfillment in bringing the unique experience of DnD to my players and bringing their stories to life. I have had incredible game masters in the past, and I know what it's like to be on the other side of the GM screen and the magic behind it. For me, the true magic of DnD is the collective storytelling it enables. Some of the best stories I've ever experienced have been told across the table, and my favourite part is that I could never do it alone! Something about a group of minds improvising a story together can create some of the most hilarious moments or the saddest. I have cried at the table more times than I would like to admit, and that serves as a testament to the magic of roleplaying games. As a GM, my role is to facilitate that magic to the best of my abilities. I bring a plethora of homebrew content, worldbuilding, writing experience and creative storytelling to the table, and I am excited for the opportunity to offer it to the wider community!

I ran my first game...
In high school, with only the 2014 Player's Handbook and no idea D&D beyond existed. My first campaign revolved around a beholder that was in control of the main city and was manipulating the citizens. We never made it to the end of that campaign, but it's where my love for DnD started.
How WhimsyWizard runs games
As GM, I am most interested in bringing my players' stories to life. I believe that while the best part of roleplaying games is not knowing what's going to happen next, it should make sense with the image your players have for their characters. I try to give as much creative freedom as possible to the players within my world, and one of the greatest tools I use for that is a session 0. I like to run campaigns with themes that my players are going to be invested in, and the easiest way to know that is to ask! I regularly will get general themes and then tell those stories within the confines of my worlds, almost all of it tailored to the players' interests. Needless to say, I am a narrative-forward GM, but I still believe heavily that the unpredictability that the rules provide is an essential element to the stories told within TTRPGs. One of the best privileges a GM is offered is also not fully knowing what's going to happen next! The rules provide that privilege, so I aim to understand and follow them as much as possible. That being said, "The rule of cool" definitely flies often at my table as I want to reward creativity in my players above all. Being at my table will challenge players in heavy roleplay, but it is not required to have a good time. So if you want a tailored experience of high-stakes, emotional and impactful gameplay, take a seat at my table! I promise you won't regret it!
