About Christopher

20+ years running campaigns where player choices have real consequences. Former war correspondent covering the Middle East—I bring that same attention to faction politics, cultural detail, and morally complex conflicts to the table. New to StartPlaying but currently running a 50+ session Dark Sun campaign with intricate political intrigue and a world that remembers everything your party does. NPCs aren't quest vendors—they have agendas, allies, and they remember when you screw them over. I run games for players of all experience levels in an inclusive, welcoming environment. If you're new, I'll teach you the rules without slowing down the story. If you're experienced, I'll give you opponents who think tactically and retreat when they're losing. My games work best for players who want: - Faction politics where your reputation matters - NPCs with actual motivations beyond "give quest, get reward" - Combat where tactics matter more than dice rolls - Choices that ripple across sessions, not just within them - Gray morality—even the good ones do bad things sometimes. I run official modules and original campaigns in settings ranging from Dark Sun to High Fantasy to magical sci-fi. Let's talk about what kind of story you want to tell. Message me with your experience level, ideal campaign type, and availability. First session 50% off while I build reviews on this platform.

I got started GMing...

because no one else wanted to run the kind of campaign I wanted to play in—politically complex, with factions that have their own goals beyond helping the party. I love when players use game mechanics creatively to solve problems I never anticipated, then I have to figure out how the world reacts.

My favorite books are

Annals of the Black Company, The Expanse series, Neuromancer, Lord of the Rings, the Vorkosigan Saga. I gravitate toward stories where everyone has reasons for what they do.

My favorite shows/movies are

Andor, Foundation, Slow Horses, The Expanse, Three Kings, Sandman. Shows that understand political and moral complexity

How Christopher runs games

I run narrative-forward games where combat serves the story but tactics still matter. Enemies retreat when losing, use terrain intelligently, and call for reinforcements. NPCs have their own goals—sometimes they're allies, sometimes obstacles, sometimes both. Consequences ripple across sessions. Kill a merchant? Her family remembers. Help a faction? Their rivals notice. Break a promise? Word spreads. I adapt to your group's preferred tone—high adventure, political intrigue, moral dilemmas, or straightforward problem-solving. Session Zero sets expectations, X-cards available, and player comfort comes first.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

The Coen Brothers (moral complexity meets dark humor), Denis Villeneuve (atmosphere and consequences), Guy Ritchie (quick-paced with interconnected plots)

Rules are...

great... they provide structure and outlines so everyone has a common grounding. But. They should never get in the way of a great idea or dramatic moment. Rule of Cool > Rules as Written

When it comes to voices

I prioritize distinct personalities and mannerisms over perfect accents. Each NPC has clear motivations and behavioral quirks that make them memorable and recognizable without relying on voice work. You'll remember characters by what they want and how they act, not by how they sound.

Christopher's ideal table

Players who engage with the world, ask questions about NPC motivations, and make choices based on character goals rather than optimal strategy. I love players who build off each other's ideas and give fellow players spotlight time. You don't need to be an experienced role-player; just be curious about the world and willing to make choices that might not be "optimal" but feel right for your character. If you bring humor and generosity to the table, even better.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Stories where smart people make logical decisions within their own moral frameworks, and consequences matter. I keep it fun while presenting genuine moral dilemmas. No mustache-twirling villains; everyone has reasons for what they do, and sometimes the "good guys" are wrong.

I love it when a player

improvises and makes an impassioned speech off the top of their head. They step up, inspire and maybe it falls flat, but I always love the effort they put into it and I always find some way to reward them for it.

My table is not the place for...

Sexist, racist, misogynistic attitudes. I run an inclusive, welcoming table. Park your prejudices and politics elsewhere.
