About Samuel

My name is Sam. I have been GMing for about 10 years now. I regularly run games for my friends, family, and new players who I've met through tabletop roleplaying. Some of my games have been ongoing for around 6 or 7 years and I plan to continue them still. Storytelling is a huge passion of mine - in my free time I write novels, short stories, and poetry. I also act regularly; transferring my love of storytelling to the stage. I have performed in plays and musicals, as well as writing and composing some of my own. I have dabbled in a variety of different tabletop games but I lean towards running Dungeons and Dragons, as I have the most experience in that medium. However, I do take inspiration (get it?) from other game systems as well as incorporating their mechanics, as well as homebrew of my own, into my games. GMing is something that feels very natural. I love developing stories with my players, and creating a world and narrative that we all can enjoy. At the moment I am looking to transition into a more creative industry. Being able to use my proficiency (get it again?) with GMing to provide for myself and my partner, whilst also crafting inclusive and immersive stories for others, would be invaluable.

How Samuel runs games

I am a story-focussed GM at heart. I thrive on creating narrative-rich worlds where players can lose themselves in pockets of roleplaying and lore. I love working with players ahead of campaigns to make sure that their characters are embedded within my worlds, and also have a say in crafting the setting. I've found that this helps players feel a sense of agency, connection and familiarity with the world in which they will be playing. That being said, it is important to me that games have threats and stakes. Combat is something I enjoy running and is often a staple of all of my games. How players choose to tackle these combats, however, is entirely up to them. I am thrilled when players react with creative solutions that do not exclusively revolve around fighting. Social encounters, puzzles, and skill challenges are all valid alternatives to traditional combat. I like to use all of the above in my games. Fundamentally, I love to create a story and setting with which my players will engage, and as such I am very malleable in terms of what type of campaign I will run. If my players want a mystery, horror, traditional fantasy, science-fiction, political-thriller, etc. (all of which I have run through the D&D system in the past) then I am always willing to adapt; in fact I enjoy the challenge.
