About Mangy

Howdy! You can call me The Game Mutt. I am a neurodivergent queer furry, Texas native, and professional goofball. I have been a game master for six years, running home games online and in person. I have been playing tabletop roleplaying games for almost two decades. My current passion is personalizing prewritten modules and homebrew worlds. A student of game design and theater, I like to bring over-the-top characters to roleplay with dynamic combats. My game of choice is Dungeons & Dragons, which I run on Foundry and Discord.

I got started GMing...

I got started GMing... because I was looking to get a game going. I had always been apprehensive about starting. While I do get more games now than I did in the past, I have happily accepted the mantle of "Forever DM". I like to play a lot of characters too, so it all worked out well!

When I'm not running games I'm...

Curating a Magic: The Gathering cube, playing Merfolk on Arena. I also play other video games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Fall Guys, Balatro, Hitman, and Blue Prince.

How Mangy runs games

I wield a coterie of character voices, ranging from absurdly silly faeries to gruff, stoic mercenaries. While I may lean heavily on comedy in my style, I know when to turn a table full of laughter into shock and horror as the tone shifts. I run my video camera so you can see me emote characters' expressions. Players at my tables love to test their abilities in my highly tuned combats. An optimized build is not scary to me; it shows me you know your character and are ready for tactical combat and for you to emerge victorious with only a sliver of resources remaining. While that is said, a fresh table of new players is an opportunity for me to use my educational abilities. A mixed experience table is also welcome; there is always room for a group that wants to introduce a friend to the game. Campaigns I have run cover tones of gothic horror in Curse of Strahd, fantastical fae in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, spelljamming in Light of Xaryxis, the brutal hell of Descent Into Avernus, and arcane school romance at Strixhaven. I also have a deadly survival horror homebrew West Marches campaign for the Magic setting Duskmourn. My games are collaborative works; I love taking your input and helping craft a compelling space for players to explore their characters. Whether we play a written module or a homebrew world, I love to create a custom world with my players. Together, we can create an experience to remember for years to come.

When it comes to voices

I love to show off my different affectations and tones. While I worry they all blend, I have been praised for my character voices, which add immersion to my games. Wacky, toony voices and big swings endear my NPCs, causing many of them to be adopted by my parties. Perfect for familiars.

Mangy's ideal table

Tables of fast learners or entrenched players who are experts at their character sheets. Players who are committed to the bit and want to see their character grow and change.
