About Colby
Hello! I’m Colby, I’ve been running D&D games for the last 8 years! All my games set within my home-brew world Rotunnis, so it’s constantly evolving with each game I run! I’ve ran two multi-year campaigns, as well as a few one-shots and am excited to start running some more!

I ran my first game...
…When I was 13! I used The Witch Is Dead mini module, and made little character sheets for everyone to draw out a hat!
I started running games because...
…of listening to Dungeons and Daddies! An incredible, stupid, hilarious podcast; I downloaded 4 episodes right before getting on a plane and fell in love!
When I'm not running games I'm...
…Drawing! I create character and creature concept art, mostly for my world, Rotunnis. I love to create artwork of the NPCs and BBEGs when I can, as well as drawing some tokens for the party!
How Colby runs games
I love creating emotional games with drama, horrors and mystery, as well as a little comedy. High fantasy settings are my preferred, due to my home-brew setting, however within that I have many different themes, such as pirate, western, desert, snow, jungle, and more! I make combats with multiple hazards to make decisions harder and more exciting, creating battle maps in Dungeondraft, and Pocket Bard for music. I am pretty ruthless meaning there are some fights that cannot be won, so make sure you know when to run!

I prep by
…Using Google Slides; I plan out my sessions in presentations, with one for world information, and one for session notes! I also create discord severs with basic world lore, home-brew rules, and ongoing information sections so players have easy access to whatever they need through the campaign.
My games focus on...
…Story telling. I love to be very descriptive, setting the scene with what you can see, hear and feel. I use characters backstories to bring in elements that will uproot emotions, and drive the game on a more interesting path!
Rules are...
…Merely a guideline! They help to create a foundation to play, but once you know them, bending and breaking them creates better gameplay! I often use some different rules for resurrection and death, as well as resting, to make situations feel a little more realistic. (tbd w/ party vote before play)
Colby's ideal table
I love players who embody their characters! They think about the little mannerisms they would have, what their favourite food would be, and aren’t afraid to do a voice and look silly! Watching player interactions and role-play brings me so much joy. I also love creating home-brew races, subclasses, and other elements for players so don’t be afraid to ask!

I think min/maxing...
…Can be awesome! I love characters that have insane strengths and detrimental weaknesses, I think it can make them incredibly interesting!
My perfect party mix is
…Storytellers! Not writers, but people who are in it for the plot, the drama, and the mystery! I love making new races and subclasses that fit best with what players want for their characters, and I’m happy for any combo of classes, as long as there’s a healer of any class!
My table is not the place for...
…Actions without Consequences; Treat the game like the real world! You can’t loot everything you see, or fight every character that looks at you funny, it’ll derail sessions, ruining it for the other players and myself. Create characters that want to be with the other PCs and complete the quests!
