About The Cholerik Clerik

Hi, my name is Erik, let's play TTRPGs on here! I consider myself a casual history Nerd and occasionally Reenactor/ LARPer. Especially the Conan movies - starring my countryman Arnie - awoke my passion for film making, badass fight scenes and funny accents. Though new to this site, I started GM-ing 17 yeas ago, spending much time as a player too, wher I found great joy in journalling and illustrating my PCs adventures over the last 13 years. As a guest player in different systems, I learned to appreciate a Story First, Rules-Light approach. Recently I started GM-ing WFRP 4th Edition in person and want to introduce more people to this fascinating world and game system.

How The Cholerik Clerik runs games

My games are low magic, gnarly and brutal scenarios, with morbid fun and a focus on Player Character development. A Rules Light, Roleplay Heavy approach lets us get started right away and build your unique characters from the lowly nobodies they start out as. I usually start off with new players in a One Shot, so everyone can get to know each other, and if we vibe, we can start to plan a campaign together, like where it is set, what races you want to play and the theme. If you are not put off by talking in character for hours while we all put on a humorously over the top voice and you like to play morally gray characters, that go through much hardship and pain, but also grow to be heroes, laugh, love and fling imaginary, severed heads at their enemies, I might just be the Game Master for you.

I deal with rules issues by...

Making a quick ruling based on experience, immersion and realism and ask everyone if they are fine with the solution for now, then look it up after the game for the future and homebrew the rule from then onward if more appropriate. Wouldn't want to kill the pace.

I prep by

Stealing and recontextualising as many cool scenarios as I can from fiction, shows and games, that my Players then solve in a completely different way to the source material.

My games focus on...

Roleplay, cinematic experience and collaborative story telling. I throw you mysteries, emotional NPC conflicts, deadly threats, urban and outdoor survival problems, you solve them creatively and according to your character's skills and experience.

The Cholerik Clerik's ideal table

I have to admit, to play online is somewhat new to me, but here is what I learned to value in offline games over the years: - to go with the story's flow and still know what you want as a PC - patience, give others a chance to shine and do not interrupt - quick wit and self aware humor, that still respects others' boundaries - dedication out of game, be it journaling, backstory crafting or art - having both player and GM experience always helps to empathise - if you on top of that also have a distinct character voice, accent, favoured phrases and in character narration, your my MVP (;

I am for a vibe that's...

let's everyone have fun and be creative/ badass, but still maintain potentially lethal consequences to defying ingame laws, physics or common sense.

I love it when a player

Knows we are playing a collaborative game and comes up with a plan that incorporates everyone's strenghs and preferences. Also when someone engages with long forgotten sidequests and NPCs let's me know they are invested in the world.

I think min/maxing...

is cool as it motivates PCs to put in maximum effort, as starting PCs are moreless randomised and after that I stongly encourage players to level up only what they actually trained ingame. You can get a teacher for skills outside your career, but that has to be earned by being extra engaged!
