I got started GMing...
After falling completely in love with D&D via the TAZ Balance, Rude Tales of Magic, and Dungeons and Daddies podcasts. When none of my friends wanted to DM, I committed my degree in creative writing to Forever DMing.
My favorite shows/movies are
The Dark Crystal, Lord of the Rings, The Conjuring, Muppet Treasure Island, The Last Unicorn, Dropout TV, Firefly, Pushing Daisies, The Good Place, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Writing for leisure, reading for enrichment, drawing comics to make my loved ones laugh, cooking while listening to podcasts for to restore my sanity and mental batteries, spoiling my cats, loving on my child, and planning my next costume.
How Ann (TheAnntagonist) runs games
I'm very open to reskinning and homebrew; my collaborative approach is oriented by the question "What kind of fun do you want to have?" While I am a fan of the Rule of Cool, I'm an even bigger fan of the Rule of Funny (quickest way to get inspiration is by making me laugh). Role playing shenanigans + creative use of skills > ultra crunchy numbers. My commitment is always to the story. Happy to hand-hold newcomers through character creation and gameplay explanation; here to crowbar space open in the gaming community for people who want to play but might be worried they're not the demographic for it.

I prep by
Making spreadsheets. So many spreadsheets. And playlists!
Rules are...
A great starting point to guide how a table wants to have fun. If the rules are hampering the story, we bend or ignore them. If the story is flagging and the table needs direction, we lean on the rules. I am always open to hearing pitches on alternatives to rules as written!
When it comes to voices
I do accents better than voices, but I've been complimented on keeping my characters distinct, consistent, and recognizable. I try and have fun with it!
Ann (TheAnntagonist)'s ideal table
My table is a safe space for uplifting newbies, or anybody who has been trepidatious about entering the TTRPG space due to concerns of "belonging". We are alphabet mafia friendly here. That being said, I'm also serious about my scheduling. IYKYK. 0 tolerance for AI. And/or give me a bunch of unhinged 12yos and let me unleash my Teacher Voice once again.

I love it when a player
Commits to their character, rejoices in the bad rolls because they make the story more interesting, and brings their own superstitions to playing.
I think metagaming...
Detracts from the fun of TTRPGs. As I've said: rule of funny is king at my table. If you metagame so your character knows about the invisible banana peel on the floor in front of them, isn't it boring for them to not slip on it?
My table is not the place for...
Any flavor of bigotry, misogyny, or generally rancid vibes. My storytelling sensibility is in line with a currently popular theme of the art form that often gleefully finds capitalism and fascism to be the BBEGs.
