About Slaine

Hi, I'm Slaine. 29, Australian. She/her. Player since my teens, GM in recent years. Using my longtime love of worldbuilding and story writing to run story heavy ttrpgs. Running play by post games at least partially to keep up writing practice. I aim to create realistic worlds formed adaptively in tandem with players. I love to see player engagement beyond reacting to worlds I make. To that end, I'm a big fan of games such as Fellowship, 13th age and Fabula Ultima that give players mechanized ways to contribute to collective world building. I'm also familiar with online roleplay style writing with little to no mechanics and I'm always happy to switch from game mode to exclusively story mode. As a gm, I'm always searching for practice and critique to hone my storytelling for better player experiences. Please don't hesitate to discuss with me how I could be doing better. Pitch scenarios described in my game listings can be used whole cloth if you're digging the vibe, as inspiration if you have other ideas, customized or abandonned altogether as players see fit. I am a spicy 18+ NSFW erotica writer in my free time. If that's something you're interested in adding to games I run, please let me know. If you are interested in my writing style, here is a link to some samples. It helps me not burnout. Thank you for understanding.

I became a GM because

I truly believe roleplaying games are some of the most uniquely responsive mediums of games. No other game but one made collaboratively with other players and a gm can be so creative or uniquely reactive to your limitless actions.

My favorite shows/movies are

Rick and Morty, Twin Peaks, Both Suspiria films, Arrival, The Iron Giant, Helluva Boss, Tron and so much more.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing videogames, writing, designing ttrpgs or thinking up story ideas.

How Slaine runs games

Story focused. I thrive in collaborative playspaces. Using the improvisional mode of 'Yes, and...', rule of cool and asking what would make for a good story and interpersonal character drama. I come from a writing and online roleplay background. I am much more focused on players having a good time than being rule accurate. I prep by

worldbuilding, creating sandboxes for players to discover and play in.

My games focus on...

drama, stories, realistic worlds, interpersonal relationships and realistic political structures.

Rules are...

Low, loose, driven by fiction, sometimes non existent or improvised.

Slaine's ideal table

My ideal table is a four player one gm in person game (never going to happen on start playing). My second best is a play by post roleplay heavy game with players wanting to meet me halfway with worldbuilding. I appreciate players with plots and arcs they want me to integrate into the campaign. Players would be willing to push the role generally taken by gms and take on some gm elements, npc creation, worldbuilding etc.

text based roleplay

I love it when a player

meets me halfway with worldbuilding and character creation. Because I run my games with very little rules, players can have much more freedom to take on gameplay elements normally designated to gms such as plotting character arcs, setting up dramatic moments and shipping characters together.

I think metagaming...

Can be used well by good actors. For instance, in a more writers-room style game where players want to follow the fiction for heightened drama and don't see the gm/player relationship as adversarial, metagaming can be very useful.
