About Skyler
Hail and well met traveler. I'm Skyler (she/her), a queer transgender woman. I prioritize providing a space where everyone is welcome and free to be themselves. Immerse yourself in a fantasy world and leave the cares of modern life behind. I've been running TTRPGs for almost a decade now. Currently running Dungeons and Dragons 5.5e. Excited to learn the Draw Steel, Daggerheart, Mothership, and Stonetop game systems.

I got started GMing...
When I couldn't find a copy of Gloomhaven at my local game store, someone there suggested I try D&D. I picked up the 5e starter box, watched a few Matt Colville videos, and within a week was running my first game with a few friends.
My favorite system of all Time is
Putting Dungeons and Dragons aside, the system I'm most excited about is Stonetop. I love the idea of a game that focuses on the character's home community. It's a system where you spend real time developing relationships with the NPC's that give your home town life.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Most of the things I do outside of running my games have something to do with TTRPGs: painting minis, watching videos from a number of creators in the space, researching how to create a better table experience for my online games. For me this has become more then just a hobby, it's community.
How Skyler runs games
I work hard to bring a balance of all three pillars of play: roleplay, exploration, and combat. Paying close attention to player wants and needs, so that I can bring the balance that best serves the whole table. When running prewritten adventures, I follow the book as a loose guide, changing the narative to feature player backstories and my own storytelling magic. I'm the type of GM that creates encounters with open ended solutions. I feel this brings a greater focus to the party's crazy ideas and avoids "one right way" thinking.

I deal with rules issues by...
Talking with the players and making a decision that feels right for the moment. With more complex rule interactions I will research the issue and make a more permanent decision before the next session. Doing it this way keeps the game flowing and makes sure all players feel heard.
I once ran a session...
Where everyone was killed by a group of Grungs. The dreaded TPK. The table talked about the situation and worked together to make the result exciting for everyone. We lost a single PC was lost while the rest were captured, allowing the story to continue but still allowing the dice to tell the story.
Rules are...
I fully believe that there are as many different versions of D&D as there are tables playing it. Rules are something that the designers of the game put a lot of thought and work into. However, I have no problem adjusting rules that get in the way of the fun or story we are trying to tell.
Skyler's ideal table
TTRPGs are for everyone, no matter their experience level with the game. My tables will always support new players, no matter how far along a campaign we are. I cultivate an air of patience, communication, comradery, and collaborative storytelling.
